A lot has happened as we have reached the middle of Summer, but we have the biggest news in another Worlds update from the League eSports team! More on that, as well as the biggest happenings in League of Legends and Dota 2 tournaments, can be read on our weekly roundup.

Worlds 2020 Date

It is confirmed: Worlds 2020 will push through, and Riot is set on making Worlds have a strong ground presence despite the current pandemic.

Days ago, the LoLeSports Team has finally announced the starting date of the 2020 World Championship, which is now set to September 25! In a blog post and a Youtube video, John Needham and other Riot employees shared the long-awaited updates for the biggest competition in the game.

Set exclusively in Shanghai, Worlds 2020 will have both play-in and knockoff stages in one place to ensure the safety of the players and tournament staff. The Finals will be held on October 31 at Pudong Soccer Stadium, a brand new high-class arena that also hosts Shanghai’s home soccer team.

No details were shared on how the virtual experience will be, as per Riot’s tradition of always wowing their audience when the time comes. Only one clue from the video is that everyone involved were proud of their next big stunt for Worlds 2020, and watchers will have something to look forward to in September.

LPL 2020 Summer Season

Only one week remains in the LPL 2020 Summer Season, but it looks like the dust has settled and we are now looking for our playoffs qualifiers.

Over the past couple of weeks, JD Gaming and Invictus Gaming made their steady climb after a rocky start. Some even suspect that they decided to play a little more lax during the earlier weeks to sweep the rest unguarded.

Victory Five have proven themselves more than enough by holding on to the Top 4 placements. Suning, LGD, and Team WE are also in a similar situation as V5, managing to prove themselves better than their Spring forms.

FunPlus Phoenix, however, is in hot waters at 8th place. The reigning world champion is extremely close to manifesting the Worlds curse, where peak success meets an inevitable downfall the following season. They have two more games next week for their last stand.

Dota 2 Major and Minor Tournaments

The OMEGA League is currently underway, with multiple continents participating in their own divisions and qualifiers across the month of August. In the OMEGA League Asia Divine Division, 496 Gaming and Neon Esports have taken the early lead in Group A, while Aster.Aries and For The Dream are leading the competition in Group B.

If you’re looking for some Minor tournaments, Season 2 of the Oceanic Esports League will start on August 5. The tournament is held online in Australia, organized by Oceanic Esports, and is sponsored by picklebet, AFTERSHOCK, and OMNIDESK. It will run from August 5 to October 24, 2020.

One of our own Filipino brethren, John Nathan “johnxfire” Fernandez, will be casting the tournament alongside other notable Australian casters. He is noted for also casting other Major tournaments in ESL One Birmingham and ESL One Los Angeles, among many others.

If you have forgotten about ESL One Thailand, don’t worry! The tournament will be starting in a week’s time with the American division going first in August 8. Check us out for the rundown of the tournament and some history from the tournament organizers.

The action never stops in the MOBA scene, with organizers from both League and Dota 2 going nonstop to provide the players their doses of massive plays. Are you just as excited as us for the summer and fall seasons?
