The Mystics got back to the win column on Monday, as they came away with a 105-100 win over the Portland Fire on the road. Before that, they suffered a 94-84 loss to the league-leading Minnesota Lynx at home on Saturday. Washington has now won three of its last four outings and has already clinched a ticket to the WNBA playoffs.
However, they can still move up spots in the standings for a better seed, depending on how the rest of the regular season shakes out. Scoring a win against Phoenix can help with that goal, and based on how the last meeting between the Mystics and the Mercury went, Washington can feel good about its chances this Wednesday. Washington blew out the Mercury at home on Aug. 10, 95-75, with Shakira Austin and Sonia Citron leading the way for the Mystics with 19 points each.

Unlike the Mystics, Phoenix has nothing to look forward to in the playoffs. By the time the WNBA postseason starts, the Mercury will be in offseason mode, as they have already been eliminated from playoff contention.
Things have not looked great for the Mercury this season, as they enter Wednesday having lost both of their last two games and four of their previous 10. In their most recent outing, the Mercury lost to Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream at home, 99-89. That loss wasted Kahleah Copper’s 38-point eruption on 13/21 shooting from the floor. Meanwhile, the Mercury are expected to have Kelsey Plum back after she missed two games due to a left calf injury. This comes on the heels of Phoenix parting ways with DeWanna Bonner via buyout.
