The Portland Trail Blazers will look to grab the series lead for the first time in the matchup against the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3. Of course, that is going to be easier said than done, with or without Wemby active in this upcoming showdown. Will the Blazers stun San Antonio again? Or, will the Spurs take the 2-1 series lead?

Away: San Antonio Spurs (1-1)
Projected Starting Five:
- De’Aaron Fox
- Stephon Castle
- Devin Vassell
- Julian Champagnie
- Victor Wembanyama (Questionable)
The Spurs look a whole lot more mortal when they don’t have Victor Wembanyama on the court. In their 106-103 loss to Portland at home, Wemby had to leave the game early after slamming his head on the court before later being diagnosed with a concussion. Concussions are tricky to deal with, so Wembanyama may have to miss at least a game.
However, he’s reportedly been upgraded to questionable for Saturday’s contest, which is undoubtedly a good sign for San Antonio. The Spurs battled hard even after Wembanyama’s exit, but they’re just not the same team without him.
If he misses Game 3, at least San Antonio will be more prepared for such a possibility, with Luke Kornet likely getting a spot on the starting unit. San Antonio will also look to shoot better from deep after hitting just 29% of their threes in Game 2. That’s a brutally low efficiency, a seeming anomaly that hints at a sharper form from deep for the team this weekend.
Home: Portland Trail Blazers (1-1)
Projected Starting Five:
- Scoot Henderson
- Jrue Holiday
- Toumani Camara
- Deni Avdija
- Donovan Clingan
Don’t look now, but the Blazers are gaining confidence, and it’s not a good thing for San Antonio. With the series going to Portland and the Blazers coming off a big win on the road in Game 2, all the momentum is on Scoot Henderson and company heading into Game 3.
Speaking of Henderson, he has been playing like he’s got a chip on his shoulder in the series. He had 18 points in Game 1 and followed that up with a 31-point eruption in Game 2, shooting 11/17 from the field with five 3-pointers. So far in the series, he’;s shooting 64.3 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from deep. That’s hard to sustain, but he’s feeling it, and it’s not a stretch to expect him to have another big performance in a playoff game at home.
The same can be said about Deni Avdija, who’s scored 44 points through two games in the series, while shooting 42.9 percent from behind the arc.
