Starting a new streak

The LA Clippers got back in the win column Wednesday by avenging their early season upset loss against the Phoenix Suns, 120-99. Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Lou Williams each scored 20 or more points, and the team collectively shot 50.6% from the floor. With the win, the Clipps improved to 21-8 and still place second in the West.

As always, those three will be the best-rounded weapons in the Clippers roster. Kawhi Leonard has compiled averages of 25 points, 9 rebounds, and five assists per game in the two match-ups with the Houston Rockets this season, while Lou Williams is at 26 points and six assists. Paul George only went 4-for-15 in his lone meeting with the Rockets on the year and should look to perform better.

Like George, big man Montrezl Harrell should be targeting to be more effective. He’s at 19 points on 57.4 FG% on the season but has only logged 11 PPG on 40% against the Rockets.

The Clippers are 14-1 at home this season. They beat the Rockets in their previous match-up at Staples Center, 122-199, where they scored 42 fourth quarter points.

Looking for more payback

The 18-9 Rockets will be coming off a 109-107 win against the San Antonio Spurs. The victory served as payback for the controversial loss weeks back.

Revenge aside, though, such wins are good for the Rockets, who have been wildly inconsistent since blistering that eight-game winning streak in mid-November. They have only gone 7-6 in their last 13 games, and three of those losses have also come from opponents with a losing record.

Nevertheless, expect the James Harden show to keep rolling in Houston. The Beard is pouring in big-time numbers almost every game and he’s also netting 42 points, 9.5 assists, 6.0 threes, and 2.5 steals per game versus the Clippers this season.

Harden’s All-Star buddy, Russell Westbrook, can hopefully shoot better. He has only made 35.7% of his shots against the Clipps (15-for-42).

Clint Capela will continue being the strong presence down low. The Swiss is right around his season averages in points but is especially effective on the boards whenever he’s up against Harrell and the Clipper frontcourt (19.5 RPG in two games).

Tomorrow will be the beginning of a four-game road trip for the Rockets. They are 8-5 on the road.

PREDICTION:

The Clippers get the win, 113-108, and maintain their great play at home.
