Away: Phoenix Suns (26-28, 10-17 Away)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Tyus Jones
  • Devin Booker
  • Ryan Dunn
  • Kevin Durant
  • Nick Richards

Hopefully for the Suns, the long break was enough for them to shake off whatever it is that’s bugging them. Phoenix lost three games in a row to conclude their schedule in the first half of the season, including a 119-111 road loss to the Houston Rockets just before the All-Star Weekend.  However, Devin Booker did not play in that contest with a back issue. The good news for Phoenix is that the former Kentucky Wildcats star is no longer on the injury report, a great sign for his availability in this rematch against the Spurs, whom Phoenix beat on Dec. 3, 104-93.

Booker scored 29 points in that game. Additionally, Bradley Beal and Grayson Allen are both expected to return after each missed multiple games before the break. Their availabilities are a huge boost for the Suns’ depth and offense, in particular. So far in the 2024-25 NBA season, the Suns are 14th with 113.2 points per game and seventh with 14.1 made 3-pointers per contest.

Home: San Antonio Spurs (23-29, 13-12 Home)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Chris Paul
  • De’Aaron Fox
  • Devin Vassell
  • Harrison Barnes
  • Victor Wembanyama (Doubtful)

The Spurs went just 2-4 straight-up in a six-game road trip to finish their schedule before the All-Star break. They concluded that stretch with a 116-103 loss to the defending NBA champions Boston Celtics, 116-103. While the long rest benefited their bodies, the Spurs could be without their best player for this date with the Suns. Victor Wembanyama is listed as doubtful for the Phoenix game.

That’s just not ideal for the Spurs, as Wemby is their leading scorer, rebounder, and biggest defensive weapon — literally and figuratively. Nevertheless, San Antonio will get to test new point guard De’Aaron Fox versus the Suns. In five games so far with the Spurs, Fox has averaged 21.6 points on 50.0 percent shooting from the field while dishing out 7.8 assists per contest. San Antonio is scoring 113.0 points per game this season but has put up 117.4 points since Fox’s addition to the roster. In two games with the Sacramento Kings this season versus Phoenix, Fox generated 25.0 points, 9.0 assists and 8.5 boards while shooting 52.5 FG%.
