Away: Los Angeles Lakers (0-1)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Marcus Smart
  • Austin Reaves
  • Luke Kennard
  • LeBron James
  • Deandre Ayton

LeBron James played like the ageless wonder he is in Game 1, pouring in 27 points on an efficient 12-of-17 shooting, doing everything possible to keep the Lakers afloat offensively. Rui Hachimura also contributed 18 points, but beyond those two, the support simply wasn’t there.

The struggles from the backcourt and bench were glaring. Austin Reaves endured a historically rough outing, shooting just 3-of-16 – the worst field-goal percentage by a Laker in the playoffs in 35 years. Marcus Smart was inefficient at 4-of-15, while Luke Kennard provided little impact despite logging 28 minutes. Compounding the problem were the 18 turnovers, many of which directly fueled Oklahoma City’s transition attack.

That lack of support is what stands out most entering Game 2. LeBron can still elevate the team, but the Lakers need far more composure, shot-making, and bench production. If the supporting cast doesn’t respond quickly, this series could slip away fast.

Home: Oklahoma City Thunder (0-1)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
  • Luguentz Dort
  • Ajay Mitchell
  • Chet Holmgren
  • Isaiah Hartenstein

Oklahoma City has looked dominant throughout the postseason, and Game 1 only reinforced why many view them as a legitimate title contender. The Thunder remain the only undefeated team left in the playoffs, winning with a blend of defense, depth, athleticism, and poise.

What makes them especially dangerous is that they controlled Game 1 despite a relatively quiet performance from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. SGA scored just 18 points and committed seven turnovers, yet OKC still cruised to an 18-point victory. That speaks volumes about the team around him.

Chet Holmgren was outstanding with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks, controlling both ends of the floor with his size and mobility. Ajay Mitchell also stepped up admirably with 18 points while filling in for the injured Jalen Williams. Beyond the stars, Oklahoma City’s bench continues to shine with relentless defensive energy and disciplined execution.

The Thunder have looked smooth, connected, and confident all postseason long. Heading into Game 2, they’ll look to maintain that control and push the Lakers into an even deeper hole.
