On a rainy evening in September, Marcio Lassiter was pouring it on against the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings.

It was obvious that the San Miguel Beermen were going to Lassiter early on and he delivered. It took him more or less half a quarter to break the PBA’s all-time 3-point record previously held by PBA and Gilas Pilipinas legend Jimmy Alapag. Not only did Lassiter clinch the PBA’s all-time 3-point record, but he did so in less than 3000 attempts and in fewer games (538) than the rest of the top 10.

Lassiter’s strong first quarter was a sign of good things to come for the Beermen, who would go on to obliterate the Gin Kings by 49 points. Seven of the 13 players SMB fielded knocked down at least one 3-pointer, all of which led to San Miguel’s largest margin of victory in franchise history.

Lassiter is definitely on the Mount Rushmore of the PBA’s greatest 3-point shooters, but where exactly does he rank among his peers?

Allan Caidic is the first person that comes to mind when it comes to Filipino shooters, and it’s no surprise given he holds the league’s records for the most 3-pointers in a game (17), most points scored in a game (79), and now finds himself in third place in the PBA’s all-time 3-point record (1,242).

Meanwhile, Alapag held the league’s all-time 3-point record for almost eight years and while he’s a two-time 3-point shootout champion, he’s known more for his legendary moments in the PBA and with Gilas Pilipinas.

The last spot is a toss up among the likes of James Yap, Ronnie Magsanoc, and Dondon Hontiveros, but we could see someone upstage them down the road.

All things considered, it’ll be tough to choose among the three, but Lassiter has the opportunity to not only pad his lead, but cement his status as the most accomplished shooter.

For his part, Lassiter holds the best 3-point field goal percentage at 39.0 percent. Some will say that part of his success comes with playing for a loaded team like the Beermen, but the shots still have to be made and the Filipino-American has made it tough for defenders to leave him open.

The gloomy weather and the allure of a 4-point line could not overshadow Marcio Lassiter’s coronation as the PBA’s all-time leader in 3-pointers made. Lassiter may have already reached the summit, but his story remains unfinished, so look for him to make his record all the more unreachable.
