It’s been a while since we’ve seen a rivalry like this.

Sure, a of couple years ago we had the Russell Westbrook-Kevin Durant rivalry that had intrigue attached to every game they played against each other.

But that really wasn’t a good match, as KD had a superteam when he was with the Golden State Warriors while Westbrook had Steven Adams (and briefly Paul George and Carmelo Anthony) during his time with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The two former friends also never met in the playoffs. KD took a 5-3 lead in the regular season matchups.

The Denver Nuggets and the Utah Jazz have been going at it hard in the first round of the playoffs. Both teams have been giving their all since the first game.

The main reason behind the great series these two teams are in right is because of the stellar play of two elite guards: Donovan Mitchell and Jamal Murray.

Both guys have been putting up an all-time great performance all series long.

In Game 1, Mitchell erupted for 57 points while shooting 57.6 percent in the field, but Murray’s 36-point performance overshadowed that eruption as the Nuggets took game one, 135-125.

Game 2, Mitchel led the Jazz to tie the series at one game apiece, 124-105, with a 30-point performance, while Murray went cold and only finished with 14 points in 46.2 percent shooting in the field.

Game 3, Mitchell got the best of Murray again to give Utah a 2-1 lead in the series, 124-87. Mitchell had 20 points while Murray continued to struggle and only had 12 points.

Game 4 proved to be the best game of the series so far. With the Jazz looking to gain a significant 3-1 series lead, Mitchell knew he had to pull off something big. Murray and the Nuggets knew that they had to come out firing.

Murray went off and dropped 50 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists and shot 58.1 percent in the field and 60 percent from the three-point area.

However, Mitchell put up his own historic night with 51 points, four rebounds and seven assists while shooting 55 percent from field and 57.1 from deep. A performance that would give the Jazz a 3-1 lead in the series, 129-127.

The Nuggets were now one loss away from being bounced out of the playoffs and Murray knew it. While on the brink of elimination, the “Blue Arrow” followed his 50-point performance in Game 4 with another huge performance in Game 5. He dropped 42 points, eight rebounds and eight assists to keep Denver alive in the series.

Mitchell showed up as well as he put up a 30-point performance in their game five loss, 107-117.

Game 6 saw another amazing performance from both ballers. Murray once again caught fire and dropped 50 points with five rebounds and six assists while shooting 70 percent in the field and 75 percent from the three-point land, 9-12.

Mitchell came back with his own on fire performance with 44 points, six rebounds, five assists in 56 percent shooting in the field. He also went 9-13 from deep.

Unfortunately for Mitchell and the Jazz, Murray’s insane performance was more than enough for them to handle and the Nuggets tied the series at 3-3, 119-107, coming back from a 3-1 deficit to force a game seven.

Both guys may not have any beef off court, but there is no doubt that their rivalry on court is one of the best in recent memory. Mitchell is continuing to establish himself as a superstar while Murray is showing everyone that he is worth the $170 million contract extension.

There’s no doubt that Game 7 is a must-watch, I don’t know about y’all but I can’t wait to see what these guys have in store for the deciding game of the series.
