We’re now at the tail end of the NBA restart, and we’ve seen some great basketball from the big names – Giannis Antetokounmpo is tallying 30-and-10 double-doubles, Damian Lillard and Devin Booker are averaging 30-plus, and Luka Doncic is dropping triple-doubles left and right.

TJ Warren, who’s yet to be an All-Star but has been a solid player for a couple of seasons now, is also showing out. He’s been playing out of his mind in the bubble, averaging 34.8 points per game on 60.5% shooting.

While they’re at it, though, certain under-the-radar youngsters are also generating buzz for themselves, both the forgotten studs and the unheralded late-round picks. It’s equally fun to see as we we’re witnessing hard work pay off, and some could be glimpses of future All-Stars and/or superstars.

Let’s get into the list – peep the handful of juniors in there:

Troy Brown Jr. – Washington Wizards

The depleted Wizards have opened the doors to the young guys, and Brown appears to be one who’s making the most out of the opportunity. The second-year guard is averaging 16 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists since the restart.

Danuel House Jr. – Houston Rockets

As the 3-and-D specialist of the small-ball, run-and-gun Rockets, House has secured a spot in the rotation. He rattled off 16.8 PPG and a good shooting split of 46% / 41% / 100% through his first five games in the bubble.

Shake Milton – Philadelphia 76ers

The former SMU standout has had 16 and 14-point game in the bubble despite sharing the ball multiple with Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, and Tobias Harris, among others. Now that Simmons is likely out for the rest of the season, he’s in a good position to shine more.

Milton netted 17.8 PPG across nine games (late February to early March, when Embiid and Simmons were both out with injuries.

Cameron Johnson – Phoenix Suns

The rookie was decent-at-best pre-shutdown (8.1 PPG), but he has turned it up in the bubble. He’s averaging 14.1 points and 6.8 boards in his last five games, and has been among the reasons why the Suns are the only unbeaten team since the restart.

Mikal Bridges – Phoenix Suns

The second-year swingman hasn’t developed into a scorer that he was coming out of college, but he’s transformed into a two-way player with nice potential. Bridges held himself while defending Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Luka Doncic.

He also contributed in TJ Warren’s lone bad game in the bubble, where they clamped on him to 7-for-20 shooting.

Derrick White – San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs needed someone to fill the void left by All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge, and they got it through Derrick White. The two-way combo guard has recaptured the momentum he gained during last year’s playoffs as he has put up 20.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 3.5 threes per game in the bubble.

Gary Trent Jr. – Portland Trail Blazers

Once thought of as a one-and-done who entered the draft prematurely, Gary Trent Jr. has become a superb scorer off-the-bench. He’s also among the reasons why the Blazers are continuing to scare the top seeds in the West.

Before cooling off yesterday, the 21-year-old opened the bubble pouring in 20.6 per game on 57.6% shooting, including an insane 62.2% from beyond the arc.

Michael Porter Jr. – Denver Nuggets

Out of all the talented guys in this list, MPJ is clearly the one who has the most star potential. Many have written him out after he had a pair of serious injuries in college and pre-2018 draft, which resulted in dropping into the 14th pick from the top three.

It didn’t look good when he finally debuted this season too, as he was unable to maintain his numbers due to all the minute restrictions for his banged up body.

Thanks to the four-month long hiatus and the absences of his teammates, though, MPJ has built a momentum in the bubble. After a quiet first game, he scored 37, 30, 27 and 23 points in his next four (29.3 PPG, 56.3 FG% in that span).

This Monday, while on a minute restriction, he had 15 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting against the West-leading Los Angeles Lakers.
