The series is now tied at 1-1 after the TNT Tropang 5G’s fiery response in Game 1, with Chot Reyes’s squad coming away with a 101-94 victory over the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. Will TNT taste their first series lead with a Game 3 win? Or, will Ginebra take back control?

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (1-1)
Projected Starting Five:
- RJ Abarrientos
- Scottie Thompson
- Stephen Holt
- Justin Brownlee
- Japeth Aguilar
Ginebra wasted an opportunity to go up 2-0, as the Barangay were outplayed by a motivated and seemingly much more inspired Tropang 5G. And just like in Game 1, Justin Brownlee and RJ Abarrientos scored 24 and 21 points, respectively, while the rest of Ginebra’s starters coughed up only nine points combined.
Stephen Holt was glaringly missing on offense. He missed the only two field goal attempts he had and scored only a point (1/2 from the foul line) in 21 minutes of action. Holt didn’t even come up with anything significant in other departments, as he only had a rebound and an assist while finishing the contest with a game-worst minus-16.
In Game 1, he had zero points in 33 minutes. It will not be surprising if he loses his starting spot in Game 3 to someone else to spark things up for the Barangay, who, at least, had 15 more attempts from the field than TNT in Game 2.
TNT Tropang 5G (1-1)
Projected Starting Five:
- Jayson Castro
- RR Pogoy
- Calvin Oftana
- Kelly Williams
- Chris McCullough
Calvin Oftana was hotter than a jeepney’s roof on a Manila afternoon in Game 2, as he put on a show to lead TNT. The former San Beda Red Lions star put up 31 points on 11/18 shooting from the field with five 3-pointers to lead all scorers in the contest.
Meanwhile, Chris McCullough had 19 points on 8/15 shooting to go with 16 rebounds. Also, Jordan Heading was more active with his shots this time around, leading to 14 points on 5/8 shooting after scoring just five points in Game 1. Now that they’ve gotten into a groove, the Tropang 5G will look to keep it going in Game 3.
They could have been carrying a 2-0 series lead at this point if not for a few bounces going in Ginebra’s way in the series opener. In other words, there is a case to be made that despite the series being tied at 1-1, TNT has played better basketball overall in the Finals thus far.
