The Wings appear to have Las Vegas’ number. The Aces have been an elite team all season long, but that’s not the case when they’re facing Dallas. 

Paige Bueckers and the Wings are 2-0 straight up in the campaign against Las Vegas. In the last meeting between these teams, the Wings torched the reigning WNBA champs to the tune of a 96-66 score at home on June 15. 

Since then, Dallas has gone 3-1 SU, a stretch that includes back-to-back victories over the Chicago Sky at home (93-92) and versus the Seattle Storm (112-110 OT) on the road last Sunday and Tuesday, respectively. Dallas is doing it with pace, and it shows in the team’s league-leading 72.4 field goal attempts per game. 

With Bueckers, Arike Ogunbowale, Jessica Shepard and Azzi Fudd, the Wings have a formidable foursome of dangerous scorers, each capable of lighting it up.

At some point, a team like the Aces will be able to figure out how to remove a thorn in their side, and Friday could be the day they finally solve the pesky Wings. Las Vegas must feel extra motivated, not only because the Aces have suffered enough at the hands of Bueckers and company, but also because they are coming off an 87-76 loss to the New York Liberty at home. 

This upcoming match against Dallas will also be the Aces’ third in five days, so fatigue might play a bigger factor for them than it does for the Wings. In any case, the Aces have the best player right now in the league in A’ja Wilson. 

On the season, Wilson is leading the league in points with 25.1 per outing and fourth in rebounds with 9.9 per contest. Also, watch out for Chelsea Gray, who had zero points in the last meeting with Dallas. She is averaging 12.0 points and will look to atone for her egg-laying effort in the previous loss to the Wings.
