Away: New York Liberty (11-6, 5-2 Away)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Sabrina Ionescu
  • Leonie Fiebich
  • Marine Johannes
  • Satou Sabally
  • Breanna Stewart

The Liberty enter Wednesday hoping to see the end of the tunnel, as they have lost their last two outings. They suffered an 86-83 loss to the Washington Mystics at home on Saturday before losing to the Los Angeles Sparks, 98-97, on a buzzer-beating shot by Nneka Ogwumike, to start a four-game road trip. Nevertheless, the Liberty should be a handful for Las Vegas.

The 1-2 frontcourt tandem of Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones is always a big thorn in the sides of New York opponents. Stewart is leading the Liberty in points (19.4), steals (1.5) and blocks (1.3), while Jones is putting up 14.2 points per game, pacing New York in rebounds (9.1).

The firepower is there for the Liberty, and they will just have to cut down on their errors to get back to their winning ways. They had 17 turnovers against Los Angeles. On the season, New York is third in offensive rating (109.5) and second in defensive rating (79.9), but just 13th in the league with a 16.5 percent turnover rate.

Home: Las Vegas Aces (12-4, 4-2 Home)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Chelsea Gray
  • Stephanie Talbot
  • Jackie Young
  • NaLyssa Smith
  • A’ja Wilson

The Aces are moving in the opposite direction of New York, with A’ja Wilson and company enjoying a two-game winning streak. The reigning WNBA champions took down the Phoenix Mercury on the road last Thursday, 86-76, before beating the Golden State Valkyries at home on Sunday, 92-73.

Those blowout wins were the perfect response by the Aces to their brutal and embarrassing 30-point loss to the Dallas Wings on the road on June 16. With how she has been doing work this season, Wilson appears to be on her way to another MVP award. The four-time league MVP is averaging 25.7 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists, while shooting 52.7 percent from the field, and she is also knocking down 1.1 of her 2.3 attempts from deep per outing.

But there’s more to the Aces than just Wilson. For one, there’s Jackie Wilson, who led Las Vegas with 21 points on 9/12 shooting in the win over the Valkyries. As a team, the Aces are second in offensive rating (110.6) and third in defensive rating (81.1).
