Oklahoma City Thunder guard Chris Paul is one of the most decorated and respected point guards of his generation. He was the league’s Rookie of the Year in 2005-06, he has multiple All-Star, All-NBA, and All-Defensive team selections, and he’s currently seventh all time in assists (9,563).

All that, however, doesn’t stop him from visualizing what an ultimate point guard would be and which particular abilities being one would require. He shared his thoughts in recent interview with Bleacher Report.

Let’s have a rundown:

  • Derrick Rose’s explosiveness
  • Kyrie Irving or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s finishing ability
  • Steve Nash’s shooting
  • Russell Westbrook’s nose for the ball
  • LeBron James’ passing and court vision
  • Chris Paul’s basketball IQ and awareness
  • Deron Williams/Baron Davis’s physique
  • Gilbert Arenas’s shotmaking ability

It’s a pretty interesting combination of talent to say the least. That mixture of skills into one player can trump any player you create on NBA 2K, regardless if you max out all of its attributes.

In the interview, Paul went on to talk about his love and obsession for basketball, providing a subtle behind-the-scenes look as to how he has developed into one of the game’s savants. As seen in the clip, he is, to this day, raving about the offensive prowess of Gilbert Arenas, who would’ve been perfect for today’s era.

Although he has lost a step or two, which is quite understandable considering this is his 15th year and he has dealt with several injuries, CP3 is able to maintain the basketball IQ and awareness he rightfully bragged about.

Paul is turning 35 on May, and as an ageless wonder in the PG position and an elder statesman in OKC’s locker room, has helped guide the Thunder into a 36-22 record, good for sixth in the Western Conference. It’s a very respectable win-loss card as the team was expected to plummet in the standings after trading away superstars Russell Westbrook and Paul George in the off-season.

Paul is averaging 17.5 points, 6.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game on the season. This past week, in his first All-Star appearance in four years, he had an All-Star career-high of 23 points and converted his first dunk through an alley-oop.
