The San Miguel Beermen defeated the Converge FiberXers in July, 128-122, but will they outlast the Converge FiberXers again? Or, will the Converge find a way to get even with San Miguel and end a losing skid?

San Miguel Beermen (4-2)

After winning their first three assignments in the conference, the Beermen have gone just 1-2. In San Miguel’s most recent outing last Saturday, the storied franchise suffered a 93-89 overtime loss to the TNT Tropang 5G. 

It appeared that the Beermen lived and died with what import George King could do on the court. He top scored for San Miguel in that contest with 35 points,but he was just 9/28 from the field.  King was 1-for-6 from behind the second arc, though, he also was 15/21 from the charity stripe. It probably would have been better for San Miguel if Junemar Fajardo got a little more touches, as the big man only had 14 points on 4/5 shooting. 

Still, King is such an offensive juggernaut that the Beermen can be expected to keep getting him the ball, regardless if he’s hot or cold, especially against Converge, which he torched for 41 points on 16/32 shooting in the first meeting with the FiberXers.

Converge FiberXers (3-3)

Speaking of hot and cold, the FiberXers went from starting the conference like a house on fire to getting frozen out of the win column. After a 3-0 start, Converge has dropped three games in a row, including last Saturday’s 119-107 defeat at the hands of the NLEX Road Warriors. 

That stretch, of course, includes the FiberXers’ aforementioned loss to the Beermen. Defense has been a major issue of late for Converge. They allowed at least 110 points in each of those losses. The Road Warriors clearly exposed that weakness, as they shot 50.6 percent from the floor and went 11/24 from behind the arc. 

Then again, they are such a talented team that their offense can overcome their issues on the other side of the court, notwithstanding their recent form. Converge is second in the league with a 112.9 offensive rating. And unlike in the previous meeting with the Beermen, Converge will have a different import this time around in the form of Jamaal Franklin, who had 26 points (7/18 FG) against NLEX.
