Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (3-3)
Projected Starting Five:
- RJ Abarrientos
- Scottie Thompson
- Stephen Holt
- Justin Brownlee
- Japeth Aguilar
In Justin Brownlee, the Barangay trust. Brownlee has simply been an unstoppable force in the series. The Tropang 5G can slow him down here and there, but he can’t be silenced altogether. In Game 6, Brownlee erupted for 52 points, albeit in a 98-90 loss. In the game before that, Ginebra’s resident import pummeled TNT for 54 points.
In the last two games, he’s gone 45/40 shooting from the floor. He is truly in the zone, but will he have enough gas with him in Game 7? In any case, the Barangay will need their supporting cast to show up. In Game 6, no Ginebra local scored more than nine points. RJ Abarrientos, usually Brownlee’s top running mate, coughed up just six points after shooting only 1/12 from the floor.
Abarrientos needs to rediscover his form in this win-or-go-home meeting. Meanwhile, Scottie Thompson did not have an MVP-esque showing, going 1/6 from the field for three points. Wednesday is high time for the former Perpetual star to deliver a big game.
TNT Tropang 5G (3-3)
Projected Starting Five:
- Rey Nambatac
- RR Pogoy
- Calvin Oftana (DTD)
- Kelly Williams
- Chris McCullough
Despite missing Calvin Oftana and Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, the Tropang 5G dug dig enough to force a Game 7. Well, most of that digging was done by none other than their import, Chris McCullough, who was worth every penny TNT paid him in Game 6.
In a throwback mano y mano between imports, McCullough outplayed Brownlee, as the former Syracuse star dropped 53 points on 20/36 shooting. He was the single biggest reason why the Tropang 5G survived that contest even without Oftana and Ganuelas-Rosser, who can be both considered game-time decisions for Game 7.
Meanwhile, another notable injury for the Tropang 5G is that of Jayson Castro, who was not able to finish Game 6 after hurting his ankle in the fourth period.
Unlike Brownlee, though, McCollough got some meaningful support from his teammates. Jordan Heading and RR Pogoy put up 19 and 13 points, respectively. Their offense will be needed in Game 7, especially if Oftana ends up getting ruled out.
