Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (2-2)
Projected Starting Five:
- RJ Abarrientos
- Scottie Thompson
- Stephen Holt
- Justin Brownlee
- Japeth Aguilar
RJ Abarrientos and Justin Brownlee collected their awards before Game 4, but Ginebra failed to pick up the win. Nevertheless, the two stars continued their individual brilliance in the series. Brownlee produced 32 points on 10/17 shooting, while Abarrientos had 21 points on 8/14 shooting.
Unfortunately for the Barangay, Stephen Holt returned to his shell after erupting for 23 points in Game 3, as he only had five points in Game 4. In the same game, Scottie Thompson, who had 17 points in Game 3, coughed up just four points. As proven once again in the series, Brownlee and Abarrientos producing big numbers alone doesn’t spell a guaranteed win for the Barangay, who shot 50.7 percent from the field and still lost.
The need for support behind the 1-2 combo of Abarrientos and Brownlee was also illuminated by the fact that the Barangay’s bench was outscored by 17 points by its TNT counterpart in Game 4.
TNT Tropang 5G (2-2)
Projected Starting Five:
- Jayson Castro
- RR Pogoy
- Calvin Oftana
- Kelly Williams
- Chris McCullough
Despite a slow start from import Chris McCollough, the Tropang 5G repulsed Ginebra in Game.. McCollough finished with 24 points, coming alive in the fourth quarter, where he scored 13 of his total output in the contest.
TNT was able to weather McCollough’s subpar start in large part because of Jordan Heading, who led the way for his team, dropping 29 points on 11/20 shooting from the field. The Tropang 5G’s rebounding also played a big role in weathering Ginebra. TNT was a massive plus-16 on the glass in Game 4 and outscored the Barangay in terms of second-chance points, 8-0.
RR Pogoy scored just five points on 2/10 shooting in the last game. Yet, TNT came away with a considerable winning margin, which can be taken as a good sign for the Tropang 5G heading into Game 5, where the former FEU Tamarraw could get back to his usual form after a letdown performance.
