Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (2-1)
Projected Starting Five:
- RJ Abarrientos
- Scottie Thompson
- Stephen Holt
- Justin Brownlee
- Japeth Aguilar
The heavens listened to Ginebra fans praying for Stephen Holt to do something, anything.
In Game 3, Holt did not just make his first field goal of the series but dropped 23 points on 7/13 shooting. He found his groove early, and his hot start helped set the tone for Ginebra’s dominant 116-102 victory in Game 3. Hopefully for Ginebra, it’s not a one-trick pony showing for Holt in the Finals, but at the very least, he’ll keep TNT’s defense honest in Game 4.
Meanwhile, Justin Brownlee had a 41-point outburst, shooting an incredibly efficient 16/21 from the field.
With Brownlee proving in every game that he’s as dependable as ever, especially on offense, all it really takes for the Barangay to win is to provide their import with ample support while playing great defense. Those are easier said than done, but Brownlee is making it look easy, and his teammates are following suit.
TNT Tropang 5G (1-2)
Projected Starting Five:
- Jayson Castro
- RR Pogoy
- Calvin Oftana
- Kelly Williams
- Chris McCullough
Chris McCullough also had a huge offensive game in Game 3, which was at least a big positive takeaway for TNT. The former Syracuse Orange star put up a game-high 44 points (16/30 FG) with 13 rebounds.
Interestingly, the two games in the Finals where he has had his highest scoring outputs so far both ended in losses. In Game 2, he only had 19 points, but TNT came away with a 101-94 win. It seems that the Tropang 5G will have to find a more balanced attack in Game 4 rather than relying too much on McCullough for offense.
That is a direct call for Calvin Oftana, who disappeared in Game 3, scoring only two points on 1/8 shooting. In Game 2, he had 31. The Tropang 5G also have to do something with their defense after allowing Ginebra to post a 139.9 offensive rating in Game 3.
