Team USA looks to continue its dominance, while Puerto Rico guns for a massive upset.

Catch the game on Saturday, August 3rd, at 11:15 PM, Manila time.

USA (2-0)

Starting five:

  • Stephen Curry
  • Anthony Edwards
  • Kevin Durant
  • LeBron James
  • Anthony Davis

Team USA is 2-0 in the Group stage after a 110-84 rout of Serbia, and a likewise one-sided, 103-86 win over South Sudan, where they redeemed themselves from their iffy performance from the tuneup game weeks back.

Kevin Durant (18.5 PPG) and LeBron James (16.5 PPG) have stirred the Americans the most, with the former maintaining his place as one of the finest scorers in USA Men’s Basketball history. The latter, on the other hand, is doing his usual all-around stuff as he hopes to close off his Olympic career with another gold medal. Expect both to be at the center of the offense again, especially Durant.

There’s a boatload of elite hoopers in the team, so it’s anyone’s guess who are gonna be the other main performers, it could be anyone between Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker, or any of the bigs. Out of the rest, though, Stephen Curry’s the one who has to step up the most, weirdly enough. He’s only mustering 7.0 PPG on 29.4% shooting (5/17) thus far.

Puerto Rico (0-2)

Starting five:

  • Jose Alvarado
  • Tremont Waters
  • Christopher Ortiz
  • George Conditt
  • Ismael Romero

Puerto Rico has looked like the whipping boys of this tournament. They were handily beaten in each of the two Group stage games (107-66 vs Serbia, 90-79 vs. South Sudan), and have experienced the same in most of the exhibition contests.

As such, Saturday could be a continuation, and might even be the worst yet. On the flipside, though, they also have a chance to pull off one of the biggest upsets in Olympics Men’s Basketball.

New Orleans Pelicans’ pesky guard Jose Alvarado leads the team with 14.0 PPG, alongside former LSU Tiger and brief NBA player Tremont Waters, who’s at 11.5 PPG. Christian Ortiz is in that mix as well, clocking in at 11.0 PPG. Waters and Ortiz will need to shoot a whole lot better as they have combined to shoot 34% across two games, although it’s pretty much everyone else as the team is at 35.7%.

More than that, though, is the defense. They have allowed offenses to operate comfortably inside and out, and they have to step up a dozen times over just to have a chance.
