After barely escaping Japan on Tuesday, France knows they’re gonna need more than luck going up against reigning FIBA champions Germany.

Catch the game early on Saturday, August 3rd, at 3:00 AM, Manila time.

France (2-0)

Starting five:

  • Nando De Colo
  • Evan Fournier
  • Nicolas Batum
  • Victor Wembanyama
  • Rudy Gobert

France moved to 2-0 after surviving a 94-90, double-overtime battle vs. Japan last July 30th. It was a fun game, though some may say there’s controversy on that 4-point play.

But, all that’s in the past, and they’re now focused on Germany, especially since they lost to them a mere three weeks ago in an exhibition matchup, 70-65. Evan Fournier and Dennis Schroder had a heated moment too.

As per usual, Victor Wembanyama and Rudy Gobert will be the two main attractions for the French hoopers. Wemby is strutting his stuff well thus far, posting 18.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 blocks per game in two contests. Gobert, meanwhile, has his usual: 9.0 PPG, 7.0 PPG, 2.0 BPG. They’ll remain as intimidating rim protectors in downlow.

Fournier and Nicolas Batum will need to do better as they have collectively shot 15-of-43 (7/25 from three) thus far. It’s especially concerning when pitted against Germany’s stout defense.

Germany (2-0)

Starting five:

  • Dennis Schroder
  • Andreas Obst
  • Franz Wagner
  • Daniel Theis
  • Johaness Voigtmann

The FIBA champs have posted two cruising victories in the Group stage: 97-77 vs. Japan on Saturday, and 86-73 vs. Brazil on Tuesday. They captured a world championship last year, and it has bred a good amount of confidence.

What’s great about this squad is aside from patient, hardworking defense, they also let everyone get their shine on offense, which is evident in the statsheet as five guys are averaging in double-digits.

Floor general Dennis Schroder (16.5 PPG, 9.0 APG) directs the offense well, and Franz Wagner’s (19.5 PPG) constantly improving game is pacing it neatly. Even better, both are also swiping a pair of steals per outing so far.

Daniel Theis, Isaac Bonga, and Franz’s older brother, Mo, round out the double-digit scorers, which is also besides the hustle they provide.
