We’re on to the quarterfinals! Can Giannis Antetokounmpo carry his up-and-down team to an upset over Germany?

Catch the game on Tuesday, August 6th, at 5:00 PM, Manila time.

Germany (3-0)

Starting five:

  • Dennis Schroder
  • Andreas Obst
  • Franz Wagner
  • Daniel Theis
  • Johaness Voigtmann

Germany swept through the Group stage, 3-0, to become one of the top seeds. They are scoring 89.3 points per game, and only allowing 73.6 on the other end, which stands as the second-largest point differential in the tournament thus far, second only to Team USA.

We should continue seeing solid defense and balanced offense from the Germans. Floor leader Dennis Schroder will remain as the maestro and one of the main scorers, with 19.7 points and 9.0 assists across three games. Meanwhile, no. 1 scorer Franz Wagner (21.7 PPG) will look to stay in form as he clashes his momentum against former NBA MVP and Defensive Player of the Year Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The other key guys in the rotation–Daniel Theis, Isaac Bonga, Mo Wagner, and Andreas Obst–are in an interesting matchup as well. Bonga will be an added offense from the wing, while Theis and Wagner will most likely co-lead a wall that’s intended to neutralize Giannis.

Greece (1-2)

Starting five:

  • Thomas Walkup
  • Nick Calathes
  • Kostas Papanikolaou
  • Giannis Antetokounmpo
  • Georgios Papagiannis

Greece was able to sneak into the quarterfinals with a 1-2 Group stage record where they had 77.3 PPG with a -3.0 net rating. They did show up with a ton of energy against Australia in a must-win in their past outing, winning 77-71, so we’ll now see if that can really pump them up.

Of course, to no one’s surprise, this squad is all about Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Greek Freak is leading the tourney in scoring with 27.0 ppg on 68.9% shooting, alongside 7.7 boards, 3.7 dimes, and 1.7 steals per contest. He’ll be the most talented player on the court by far, and should be able to continue performing as such.

Hopefully, though, he gets more ample help. His teammates are collectively shooting a woeful 35.2% (54/153 FGs) from the field, and sixth man Vasilis Toliopolous is the only other player on the team who’s averaging in double-digits. It’s actually commendable how Giannis is still able to post that many assists.
