The Dallas Wings and the Connecticut Sun have been moving in opposite directions of late. While the Wings are on a two-game slide, the Sun have picked things up and won their last couple of games. Will the Wings end their skid in this matchup? Or, will the Sun extend their winning streak?

Away: Dallas Wings (11-8, 5-5 Away)
Projected Starting Five:
- Azzi Fudd
- Paige Bueckers
- Arike Ogunbowale
- Awak Kuier
- Jessica Shepard
The Wings have not lost three games in a row this season, but they are on the verge of suffering such a skid following back-to-back losses. They fell prey to the reigning WNBA champions Las Vegas Aces, on the road last Friday, 99-84, before losing to the Minnesota Lynx at home on Monday, 85-77. Part of the Wings’ struggles of late is the play of star Arike Ogunbowale, who has not been herself on offense over the past few games.
On the season, Ogunbowale is averaging 13.5 points, but in the last three Dallas games, she’s scored just 13 points in total on a brutal 3/24 shooting from the field. Perhaps she is due for a big game this Friday against the Sun, who are just 12th in the league with an 87.3 defensive efficiency and ninth with a defensive 52.1 effective field goal percentage.
Meanwhile, Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd have just combined for 46 points in the Minnesota game. They will continue to be a big threat on offense, as the Wings look for a way back to the win column.
Home: Connecticut Sun (4-15, 3-7 Home)
Projected Starting Five:
- Diamond Miller
- Brittney Griner
- Olivia Nelson-Ododa
- Charlisse Leger-Walker
- Leila Lacan
Connecticut has been awful overall this season, but it has gained some ground of late, with the Sun winning consecutive games for just the first time in the campaign. After defeating the Chicago Sky on June 23, 92-63, at home, the Sun torched the Washington Mystics, 68-57, last Saturday in Connecticut. Getting into the WNBA playoff picture is still a tough challenge for the Sun, but they have seemingly found their groove, which can’t be good news for the skidding Wings.
It seems like the right time for a team like Connecticut to meet Dallas, given the Wings’ recent struggles. Nine-time WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner can still be a force on the court, and she is currently averaging 12.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.8 blocks per game. She can expect help from Leila Lacan and Charlisse Leger-Walker.
Lacan has scored at least 12 points in each of her last three games, while the rookie Leger-Walker is averaging only 6.8 points this season but has put up 10.0 points in the last four outings.
