A team in the America region has been allegedly caught and currently still held under investigation following the incidents of South East Asian team Rise Esports and Chinese team Newbee for the same issue.

After confirming multiple incidents of match-fixing, DOTA 2 tournament organizer Beyond The Summit announced via Twitter that they have officially disqualified and removed the regional roster of Team PlusOne in the BTS Pro Series and has deemed all of their results in the tournament as void.

The organization has also escalated the incident to Valve providing all evidence and information. This is no good news for the team and players who will be found to have direct involvement with the match-fixing incident as Valve has been known to hand out lengthy if not lifetime bans for players caught match-fixing in DOTA 2 tournament of high-level competition.

As tournament organizers Beyond The Summit continue to conduct further investigation regarding the matter, they have stated that they have banned PlusOne team captain Yixaun “xuan” Guoalong, along with teammates Ched and Jano from all future BTS events. Their two other players in dnm and Wij may still compete in other future BTS tournament as of this writing. With other tournament organizers being highly likely to follow BTS’s example, things are not looking up for the players involved as this may probably affect their ability to sign with other organizations.

Match-fixing may not be limited to specifically winning or losing a match like many assume, Beyond the Summit co-founder David “Godz” Parker revealed that many of these fixed bets involve markets such as but not limited to first blood, first team to reach 10 kills, first team to take down towers, total kills, and team kill difference. These would be the easier route for lower-tier teams like PlusOne to control when facing a team at a higher-tier such as Evil Geniuses as they are less likely to win a match against a team of higher competition and talent pool to control winning or losing.

Having played a total of six series so far in the event, all previous results have been nullified, leaving nine teams in the event. The BTS Pro Series continues despite losing one team in the event. The group stage has already come to an end yesterday finalizing team standings as teams gear up for more intense competition with the playoffs kicking off tomorrow at 3:00 in the morning. The upper bracket slots have been secured by 4 Zoomers, Evil Geniuses, business associates, and Quincy Crew while the other four teams in Thunder Predator, Midas Club, CR4ZY, and beastcoast take the longer and more grueling path of the lower bracket as they chase the crown and the lion’s share of the $50,000 prize pool.
