Off-season content continues! After a couple of pieces on unflattering stats, let’s switch gears and go on more positive feats. The 2023-24 NBA season was yet another year filled with monster performances, so we aren’t short on impressive outputs. Let’s dive in.
POINTS – 73
Luka Doncic – January 27, 2024
In a week where a handful of guys were going nuclear on defenses, Luka Doncic bookended it perfectly by unloading 73 points against the Atlanta Hawks, topping 62 from Devin Booker and Karl-Anthony Towns and 70 from Joel Embiid, all of which happened within a five-day span.
It’s also tied for fourth-highest scoring output in league history, and the most since Kobe Bryant’s 81 in January 2006.
REBOUNDS – 31
Jusuf Nurkic – March 4, 2024
With a team that had the offensive talent of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal, it’s clear that Nurkic is far down the line in shots and only there for interior presence, which he did a good job at. He finished seventh in rebounding at 11.0 boards per game, and was able to tower over the thinly-built Oklahoma City Thunder last March by hauling in 31 rebounds.
The performance set a new Suns franchise record in rebounds for a single game. It’s also the most in the league since the 2010-11 season.
ASSISTS – 23
Tyrese Haliburton – December 31, 2023
The Pacers shaped a system and personnel that nicely cater to their franchise point guard’s abilities, and with that, Tyrese Haliburton has guided Indy into having the most prolific offense in the NBA. He had 11 games with 15 or more assists this season, including two here he had 20-plus dimes.
STEALS – 7
Multiple – Anthony Davis, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Herb Jones, and Tre Mann
Four different guys had an NBA-high seven steals in one game this season, and it’s interesting. The first three seem to make sense as Davis and Jones are defensive guys while Shai has always had a knack for ball thievery. Mann, meanwhile, came out of nowhere as just became a ball hawk as soon as he got traded to the Charlotte Hornets from OKC. He had 1.7 steals in 25 games with the Hornets, including six games with three or more.
BLOCKS – 10
Victor Wembanyama – February 13, 2024
As the Spurs’ new franchise man, Victor Wembanyama just altered shots left and right all season. He was so good, he almost won Defensive Player of the Year alongside his landslide Rookie of the Year win.
Wemby led the league in blocked shots (total and per game), and had 24 games with five or more blocks in a single game.
FIELD GOALS – 25
Multiple – Jalen Brunson and Luka Doncic
This was during Doncic’s 73-point explosion and Jalen Brunson’s career-high 61 points. It’s also a good testament as to how good their 2023-24 campaign was, as the former won the scoring title and reached the NBA finals, while the latter led the New York Knicks into one of its most memorable seasons in a long while.
Dallas Mavericks fans, isn’t it crazy that your team had both guys at one point?
3-POINTERS – 12
Keegan Murray – December 17, 2023
While multiple threes are as regular as they come in today’s game, second-year forward Keegan Murray still shocked fans on a random December night. He splashed a franchise-record 12 treys, including 11-straight without a single miss, en route to 47 points (the most by any King this season.
TRIPLE-DOUBLES – 26, DOUBLE-DOUBLES – 77
Domantas Sabonis
We got another Sacramento King to close this out. Domantas Sabonis is just a stat sheet stuffer with how he can score, rebound, and facilitate, and it was quite evident with how he led the league in both double-doubles and triple-doubles. He almost doubled his TDs from the previous year, where he had 14.
Sabonis has led the league in DDs in back-to-back years. He can easily threepeat.
