Barangay Ginebra once again showcased championship experience and composure as they stole a 92-90 win. On the flip side, TNT once again had a meltdown in Game 2 of the 2020 Philippine Cup Finals.

It seems that the Kings have the “Never Say Die” spirit on point in this year’s playoffs as it showed once again another stellar performance in clutch moments.

Down 15 points at one point in the third quarter, Barangay Ginebra were led by Stanley Pringle who had 34 points, six rebounds and eight assists. He was backed up by Aljon Mariano’s 20 points and nine rebounds off the bench. The comeback win now gives them a more comfortable 2-0 advantage in the series.

Another great factor in the win was that Barangay Ginebra seems to have found their closer in Scottie Thompson. He once again came up clutch – his first field goal (and only basket of the game) was the big go-ahead three in the dying embers of the game.

Thompson only had five points and shot 1-5 in the field with nine rebounds and six turnovers but despite the fact, his confidence to knockdown a game changing three-pointer did not falter down the stretch.

The last time Barangay Ginebra had a 2-0 lead in a Finals series was back in 2017 against Meralco in the Governors’ Cup Finals. They eventually closed it in seven games.

TNT is in trouble

In the last two games, the game was very close with both teams showing great plays down the stretch but the Tropang Giga seems to have lost their ability to make clutch plays. They once again had a meltdown and lost a comfortable lead.

Missing Ray Parks because of a calf injury, RR Pogoy took over with 38 points, four rebounds and three steals but interestingly, Jayson Castro who only had 13 points in 5-14 shooting in the field with six assists had the ball a great deal of the time in the dying moments of the game.

Now heading into Game 3 this Friday, the Tropang Giga are in a must win situation, while the Kings have the momentum and confidence on their side. Judging from how they’re closing out games so far, it wouldn’t be surprising if they took a 3-0 lead into the weekend.
