It is all tied up, as the TNT Tropang 5G avoided falling down a 3-1 hole with a win on Wednesday. Will they follow that up with another victory for a pivotal 3-2 series lead? Or, will the San Miguel Beermen respond with a victory?

TNT Tropang 5G (2-2)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Simon Enciso
  • Jordan Heading
  • Kim Aurin
  • Calvin Oftana
  • Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser

The Tropang 5G brought the pain to SMB in Game 4 to tie the series with a 110-87 win. TNT landed big blows early and never stopped pummeling the Beermen the rest of the way. The Tropang 5G recovered right away from their salty outside shooting in Game 3 and went 14/31 from the 3-point region and added a bucket from behind the second arc. Calvin Oftana led the charge for TNT with 29 points on 11/19 shooting with five threes.

Oftana is making a very strong case for the Finals MVP award should TNT win it all, and he’ll continue to be a focus of TNT’s offense, especially with RR Pogoy re-injuring his hamstring in Game 4. Pogoy hasn’t been ruled out for the remainder of the series, but it’s hard to expect him to put up his usual numbers amid his situation.

San Miguel Beermen (2-2)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Chris Ross
  • CJ Perez
  • Marcio Lassiter
  • Moala Tautuaa
  • June Mar Fajardo

San Miguel might have shown some cracks in its armor in Game 4, but the Beermen have time to patch those up. They survived Game 3 despite shooting just 39.0 percent from the field, but in Game 5, they couldn’t escape with a win, as they made just 41.9 percent of their attempts. June Mar Fajardo had 18 points and 16 boards, but no other Beerman had more than 13 points.

Outside of Fajardo, SMB’s starting unit coughed up just 20 points, with Marcio Lassiter and Chris Ross laying eggs. Don Trollano had 13 on seven attempts off the bench, while Jericho Cruz produced nine points on five shots. It is all about balance for San Miguel’s attack, and it was highly concentrated on Fajardo in the fourth game of the series.  Spreading out the production is a key for San Miguel, which surely wants more from CJ Perez after an 11-point thud in Game 4.
