The TNT Tropang 5G got the early 1-0 lead in the series. Will they double down on it with a win in Game 2? Or, will the San Miguel Beermen respond and level the series with a victory at the Mecca of Antipolo basketball?

TNT Tropang 5G (1-0)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Simon Enciso
  • Jordan Heading
  • Kim Aurin
  • Calvin Oftana
  • Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser

Kelly Williams doesn’t touch the sky like he used to, but he proved again in Game 1 that he is still a key member of this TNT squad. The 43-year-old vet led all Tropang 5G scores in the series opener with 15 points on 6/14 shooting from the floor. It was perhaps by design that he had that many shots.

Even though he went just 1/6 from deep, his audacity to launch those shots kept the Beermen’s defense stretched. As a team, the Tropang 5G were 9/26 from the 3-point region and amassed 28 buckets inside the arc, in part because of all the lanes that they have opened up with their range.

TNT appears to have the right idea about how to take advantage of the Beermen’s defense and the right men to execute its plans, but the Tropang 5G should still be wary of the adjustments to be made by the other side.

San Miguel Beermen (0-1)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Chris Ross
  • CJ Perez
  • Marcio Lassiter
  • Moala Tautuaa
  • June Mar Fajardo

The vaunted depth of the Beermen were barely felt in Game 1, and they will look for its impact anew in Game 2. Jericho Cruz came off the bench and scored 10 points, but Don Trollano and Juami Tiongson combined for just nine points on 2/12 shooting.

With Henry Galinato and Simon Enciso scoring 22 points together as surprise key contributors for TNT in Game 1, the Beermen’s backups failed to come up with a sufficient response, though Rodney Brondial deserved to be mentioned for scoring 10 points off the bench.

Meanwhile, San Miguel dominated in the frontcourt, as June Mar Fajardo and Mo Tautuaa scored 23 and 22 points, respectively.  Those two could keep it going, though help from the perimeter is still needed. Chris Ross and Mario Lassiter laid eggs from the field in Game 1, going 0/5 together from the floor, but look for SMB to stick with the two vets, as Leo Austria hopes for a better showing from the perimeter by his team.
