The Titan Ultra Giant Risers are coming off their first win after a long while, but can they keep it going when they face off against the powerful San Miguel Beermen this Wednesday? The Beermen are on a roll, but they can’t be too overconfident versus the opportunistic new PBA franchise.

Titan Ultra Giant Risers (2-4)
Projected Starting Five:
- Aljun Melecio
- Joshua Munzon
- Von Rolfe Pessumal
- Calvin Abueva
- Mario Barasi
Titan Ultra has finally stopped their bleeding, as the Giant Risers snapped a four-game losing skid with a 97–86 win over the Blackwater Bossing on Nov. 5. Calvin Abueva spearheaded Titan Ultra’s attack with 23 points, and while he shot just 5-for-19 from the field, he made a living from the foul line, as the former San Sebastian Stags star went 13-for-15 from the foul line.
Meanwhile, Joshua Munzon contributed 18 points and was 8-for-10 from the charity stripe. With Abueva and Munzon, Titan Ultra has managed to get a ton of freebies on offense. The Giant Risers are leading the league in this conference with 31.0 free-throw attempts per game. Their ability to draw fouls could be a key for Titan Ultra to take down San Miguel — or at least put the Beermen’s best player (or the league’s, for that matter) in the form of June Mar Fajardo in foul trouble.
Defensively, Titan Ultra can be pretty aggressive on the ball and in the passing lanes, as the Giant Risers are second in the league with a 9.2 percent steals rate. They are also fifth with a 6.2 percent block rate.

San Miguel Beermen (4-2)
Projected Starting Five:
- Chris Ross
- CJ Perez
- Marcio Lassiter
- John Rodney Brondial
- June Mar Fajardo
Fajardo is a constant problem for San Miguel’s opponents, but he’s not the only thorn they have to deal with, either. Take for example Don Trollano, who stepped up in his return from an injury and delivered 29 points off the bench in the Beermen’s 94-92 win over the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots last Friday.
Trollano left no doubt about his health, as he drained 11 of his 16 attempts from the field, including three 3-pointers and a 4-pointer. He will be a marked man for Titan Ultra’s defense, but it could end up being another guy erupting for San Miguel. Apart from Fajardo, who had 18 points and nine boards against Magnolia, and Trollano, the Beermen also have the likes of CJ Perez, Juami Tiongson and Jericho Cruz — all capable of taking over on any given stretch for San Miguel, which is averaging 95.2 points per game.
The Beermen will also enter Wednesday’s meeting with Titan Ultra on a four-game win streak, during which they defeated the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Converge FiberXers.
