The San Miguel Beermen (4-1)

Projected Starting Five:

  • PG: Simon Enciso
  • SG: CJ Perez
  • SF: Marcio Lassiter
  • PF: Rodney Brondial
  • C: June Mar Fajardo

The Beermen downed another win last Sunday, comfortably defeating the Converge FiberXers, 111-92. San Miguel used a balanced attack to overpower the FiberXers, with five players scoring at least 10 points. Mo Tautuaa led the Beermen with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while six-time PBA MVP double-doubled as well with 18 points and 16 rebounds to go with 4 blocks. San Miguel’s twin tower combo of Tautaa and Fajardo could be looking at another high usage against Rain or Shine for at least a couple of reasons.

For one, the Beermen are missing the services of veteran point guard Chris Ross, whose injured ankle will keep him out for weeks. Also, the Beermen should be able to dominate the rebounding battle this Wednesday, since the Elasto Painters are bottom in the PBA this conference with 43.2 TRB%.

The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (1-4)

Projected Starting Five:

  • PG: Rey Nambatac
  • SG: Gabe Norwood
  • SF: Mike Nieto
  • PF: Leonard Santillan
  • C: Beau Belga

The Elasto Painters are on a free fall. After winning its conference-opener agianst Converge, Rain or Shine has suffered four straight defeats. That includes its 89-85 loss to the TNT Tropang Giga on June 23. If anything, the Elasto Painters enter Thursday’s showdown with San Miguel fresh, thanks to five full days of rest. Despite all the losing they have suffered, the Elasto Painters must be enamored of the play of their young guns, particularly Gian Mamuyac, Leonard Santillan, and Mike Nieto.

Mamuyac shined against TNT, scoring 18 points with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 stealsn and 2 3-pointers on 5 attempts in 31 minutes on the floor. His confidence is rising and that’s definitely a good thing for Rain or Shine, which is also third overall this conference with a 65.6 AST%. With their youngsters getting better and with their vets in Beau Belga and Gabe Norwood still serviceable at the very least, the Elasto Painters are capable of stunning the Beermen.

PREDICTION:

Spread:  The Beermen cover (-8).

Over/Under: The Over (176.0) hits.
