San Miguel Beermen (3-3)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Juami Tiongson
  • Marcio Lassiter
  • Don Trollano
  • Rodney Brondial
  • June Mar Fajardo

The Beermen were already smelling the PBA Finals when they went up big in the fourth quarter of Game 6, but that was until LA Tenorio happened. San Miguel had a nightmare down the stretch of that game, but the good news for June Mar Fajardo and company is that it was not the end of the world for them.

To win Game 7, the Beermen need Fajardo to be Fajardo, but they also can’t let undisciplined play and poor shot selection waste the great things that the eight-time PBA MVP does. Fajardo had 21 points and 16 rebounds in Game 6, but as a team, San Miguel shot just 39.5 percent from the floor. CJ Perez had 15 points on 22 attempts from the field while Don Trollano generated 13 points on 14 tries. It will have to come together for San Miguel from start to finish for the Beermen to fend off the Barangay.

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (3-3)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Scottie Thompson
  • Stephen Holt
  • Jamie Malonzo
  • Troy Rosario
  • Japeth Aguilar

Just days before his 41st birthday, LA Tenorio added to his incredibly long list of highlights by draining a game-winning 3-pointer in Game 6. That shot will be replayed over and over for years to come, but the job isn’t done yet for Ginebra. It may be too much to ask for such another performance from Tenorio to save the Barangay anew, so it will have to be guys like Stephen Holt, Jamie Malonzo and RJ Abarrientos who need to show up.

Malonzo, in particular, was atrocious in Game 6, going 1-for-14 from the field and finishing with a minus-17. Meanwhile, Japeth Aguilar will continue to have a heavy load on his shoulders on both ends of the floor, as he’s a main threat for lobs and in attacking San Miguel’s interior defense while being a chief deterrent for Fajardo on defense.
