Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (2-2)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Andrei Caracut
  • Gian Mamuyac
  • Caelan Tiongson
  • Jhonard Clarito
  • Jaylen Johnson

The Elasto Painters are hard to kill, and Ginebra found out about that again on Wednesday, as Rain or Shine came away with a 97-85 victory. It was a convincing win for Rain or Shine that leaned on a balanced attack to repel the Barangay and quite Ginebra’s sixth-man crowd.

Jaylen Johnson only had 13 points on 5/13 shooting in Game 4, but four other ROS locals put up at least 11 points, including surprise contributor and rookie Christian Manaytay, who came off the bench and scored 11 points on his way to being named Player of the Game.

Manaytay and Rain or Shine’s bench tilted the game heavily in the Elasto Painters’ record, as the team’s backups combined for 48 points to just 12 by Ginebra’s reserves. That pretty much sums up the win for Rain or Shine — and sends a strong message and challenge to Ginebra heading into Game 5.

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (2-2)

Projected Starting Five:

  • RJ Abarrientos
  • Scottie Thompson
  • Stephen Holt
  • Justin Brownlee
  • Japeth Aguilar

Ginebra will need more than its top gunners if the Barangay are to counter Rain or Shine’s peskiness. The Elasto Painters are not going away easily, largely because of their depth, and the Barangay did not match Rain or Shine in that area in Game 4.

Justin Brownlee paced Ginebra with 27 points on 9/20 shooting to go with 10 rebounds and four assists, while Scottie Thompson provided 20 points on 7/13 shooting. After those two, Japeth Aguilar was the next highest scorer with 10 points to go along with 10 boards.

It could be that the Barangay’s offense is becoming more predictable for the Elasto Painters, but Ginebra should still be able to keep Rain or Shine’s defense honest, especially if RJ Abarrientos and Stephen Holt find their groove in Game 5 after combining for a salty 6/17 shooting for 16 points on Wednesday.
