NLEX Road Warriors (1-0)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Baser Amer
  • Xyrus Torres
  • Brandon Ramirez
  • Jonnel Policarpio
  • JB Bahio

The Road Warriors kicked things off with a stunner last Wednesday, as they pulled off an 85-84 squeaker past June Mar Fajardo and the San Miguel Beermen at Ynares Center in Antipolo. Despite missing their best player, Robert Bolick, NLEX overcame a 13-point deficit to come away with its first win in the conference.

Jonnel Policarpio and Brandon Ramirez stepped up to deliver the goods for the Road Warriors versus San Miguel, as each scored 16 points. The bench also came through for NLEX, with Kevin Alas adding 13 points to go with five rebounds. Matt Nieto only had two points, but he helped provide the playmaking the Road Warriors were missing in Bolick’s absence, as he led the team with seven assists while finishing with a plus-13.

Bolick, who is out for personal reasons, is not expected to return until next week, so expect the Road Warriors to face Terrafirma still without the former San Beda Red Lions star.

Terrafirma Dyip (0-1)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Paolo Hernandez
  • JM Bravo
  • Brent Paraiso
  • Didat Hanapi
  • Keith Zaldivar

Terrafirma started its campaign in a Terrafirma-esque way: they lost. The Dyip got blown out right away in their first game, suffering a 107-87 beatdown at the hands of the Blackwater Bossing on Friday at the Ynares Center in Montalban. Terrafirma was crushed on the boards, and it’s an issue the team will have to fix. The Dyip shot better at 41.0 FG% than Blackwater (39.3%), but they gave up too many second-chances to the Bossing, who won the rebounding battle by a wide margin, 61-43.

Blackwater also had 23 offensive rebounds to just 10 by the Dyip. One encouraging sign for Terrafirma was the performance of Jerrick Ahanmisi, who led the team with 25 points to go with seven rebounds, three steals and three assists coming off the bench. Paolo Hernandez, meanwhile, had 19 points on an excellent 6-for-7 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 line from behind the arc.
