NLEX Road Warriors (4-1)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Xyrus Torres
  • Robert Bolick
  • Anthony Semerad
  • Jonnel Policarpio
  • John Bryle Bahio

The Road Warriors continue to roar, as they collected their third win in a row with an 88-99 thumping of the Blackwater Bossing last Wednesday. It was the third win in a row for NLEX, which got 23 points from John Bryle Bahio.

Xyrus Torres contributed 18 points, while Robert Bolick added 15 points to go with 12 assists. As a team, the Road Warriors shot nearly 50 percent from the field  (48.7 FG%) despite going only 4-for-19 from deep. NLEX bucked that poor shooting from behind the arc, thanks to the Road Warriors having 26 assists on 39 field goals made. They balance out low-percentage shots with good finds for easier buckets. At the same time, the Road Warriors have a stout defense, one that is second in the league with just 87.0 points allowed per game.

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (1-3)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Jeremiah Gray
  • Scottie Thompson
  • Stephen Holt
  • Troy Rosario
  • Japeth Aguilar

Ginebra flew over 4,000 miles from Manila to Dubai only to suffer an 83-81 loss to the San Miguel Beermen. The Barangay then had to travel back home with a three-game losing skid. From Dubai, Ginebra will play this Sunday in Antipolo, looking to snap its losing streak. The Barangay’s offense has been a major culprit behind their pathetic showing so far in the conference. They are averaging just 80.3 points per game — the fewest in the league.

They are also shooting only 37.0 percent from the floor and 25.8 percent from deep. But like NLEX, the Barangay have a solid defense, surrendering a league-best 82.3 points per outing. However, they still have a negative efficiency differential of minus-2.5 to NLEX’s plus-3.6. It is mostly on the Barangay’s backcourt and wings to step up offensively. Japeth Aguilar is shooting 53.5 FG%, but Scottie Thompson, RJ Abarrientos, Jeremiah Gray and Stephen Holt are all shooting below 36.0 percent.
