The Converge FiberXers look to avenge an earlier loss to the Meralco Bolts, and are in a must-win situation as they hope to climb the Group A standings.

Catch the game this Wednesday, September 18th, at 5:00 PM.

Meralco Bolts (6-2)

Projected starting five:

  • Chris Banchero
  • Allein Maliksi
  • Chris Newsome
  • Allen Durham
  • Raymond Almazan

The Bolts suffered a loss to sister team TNT Tropang Giga earlier in the week, but made a quick return to the win column courtesy of a 114-104 victory over the Northport Batang Pier.

While Allen Durham is still the playmaking locomotive downlow, who also happens to be a good facilitator, Meralco will continue parading a deep lineup of locals that are also quite familiar with the longtime import’s style. It was evident in the Northport game as six different Bolts reached double-digit scoring.

Meralco won against Converge last September 4th, 116-88. Durham was in his usual form, posting 27 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists, topped off by zero turnovers. Chris Banchero backed it up nicely with 24 points and five dimes, while Anjo Caram stepped up with a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from three, same with Alvin Pasaol who was likewise 5-of-5 from the floor for 12 points. Star guard Chris Newsome had a quiet night in that game, but he’s coming off a productive outing (20 pts, 11 rebs, 4 ast vs NOR), so he may be able to ride that for Wednesday.

Converge FiberXers (4-4)

Starting five:

  • Alex Cabagnot
  • Alec Stockton
  • Scotty Hopson
  • Kevin Racal
  • Justin Arana

The FiberXers come in having won two in a row, both of which saw them hold their opponents to just 99 points. The recent W, however, was against the bottoming Terrafirma Dyip, making it minimal in impact. Then again, a win is a win.

High-scoring import Scotty Hopson only had 18 points vs. Dyip, but look for his offensive onslaught to return Wednesday as he goes up opposite a top-tier counterpart. He had 33 in the loss to the Bolts earlier this month, and even that was only considered as an ‘okay’ output.

Deschon Winston led all FiberXers in scoring against Terrafirma with 19 points, so he’s in a good momentum. Then, as always, facilitator Alec Stockton, big man Justin Arana, and guard JL Delos Santos will be there to provide aid for the import.

With two game-winners via four-pointers, Hopson has proven himself to have a knack for big shots, He is sure to put pressure on Meralco as long as the game is within reach.
