The Converge FiberXers and the TNT Tropang 5G will take their act north this weekend, as they square off at Chavit Coliseum in Vigan City. Will the new-look FiberXers, who looked impressive in their conference debut, take down TNT? Or, will the Tropang 5G disconnect Converge from the win column?

Converge FiberXers (1-0)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Deschon Winston
  • Juan Gomez De Liano
  • Kevin Racal
  • Justin Arana
  • Justine Baltazar

In a game where a ton of points were scored, rookie guard Juan Gomez De Liano managed to shine for the FiberXers, as he put together an incredible stat line for someone playing in his first game in the oldest pro league in Asia. De Liano authored a triple-double of 15 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in the FiberXers’ 129-92 drubbing of the Titan Ultra Giant Risers last Saturday.

It was quite a debut as well in the conference for Converge as a team. Apart from De Liano, five other FiberXers scored at least 12 points, including Justin Arana, who put up a mammoth double-double of 28 points nd 22 rebounds. Converge was just too much to handle for the Giant Risers, as the FiberXers posted a 130.2 offensive rating and 92.9 defensive rating in the game. It’s not going to be a walk in the park for the FiberXers, but that kind of performance on both sides of the floor shows the scary potential of this club.

TNT Tropang 5G (1-1)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Rey Nambatac
  • Roger Pogoy
  • Calvin Oftana
  • Glenn Khobuntin
  • Henry Galinato

The dream of a perfect season is now crushed for the Tropang 5G, as they suffered a 92-77 loss to the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel on Wednesday. It was one of those nights for TNT, which shot only 36.5 percent from the field. The Tropang 5G’s sloppiness with the leather resulted in 16 turnovers and a minus-13 disadvantage in points off turnovers.

Two of the team’s top options, Calvin Oftana and Rey Nambatac, combined for nine points on a salty 4-for-18 shooting. Jio Jalalon shot 0-for-6 and played 18 minutes, which probably would have been better allocated to Jordan Heading, who attempted just a field goal – that he missed – in only seven minutes of action. But that could change in the Converge game, provided that Heading is now feeling much better. He was not in top form against Ginebra due to a recent bout with an illness that also caused him to miss TNT’s first game against the Phoenix Fuel Masters.
