Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings (5-5)

  • Jeremiah Gray
  • Nards Pinto
  • Von Pessumal
  • Jayson David
  • Sidney Onwubere

The Gin Kings snapped a two-game skid in their previous game. They beat the lowly TNT Tropang Giga, 81-67, despite turning the ball over 23 times. Their defense gave up 25 points to Glenn Khobuntin, but it shut shutdown the rest as no one else scored in double figures.

Defense will be key again this Sunday as NLEX presents a more balanced scoring attack. We’ll see how much confidence they picked up from that solid job last week.

Interestingly enough, though, the Gin Kings themselves have a more scattered point production. Jeremiah Gray, Von Pessumal, Aljohn Mariano, Sidney Onwubere, and Japeth Aguilar are all scoring double-digit points per game. Onwubere (21 pts, 16 rebs) and Gray (18 pts, 11 rebs) get the biggest spotlight though, as they both registered double-doubles in the aforementioned win.

NLEX Road Warriors (5-5)

  • Clint Doliguez
  • Matt Nieto
  • Kevin Alas
  • Sean Anthony
  • Benedict Adamos

The Road Warriors are riding a two-game winning streak. They, too, beat TNT in their recent outing, 97-84, though it was much tougher than Ginerba’s case as they had to climb their way out of a 20-point deficit in the first quarter.

The team-oriented attack was present as always, and fortifying it is the threes they poured into the floor, as well as the hounding defense. NLEX held TNT to a pitiful 34% shooting while also unleashing 17 treys in total, with the starters and bench guys splitting in fairly. Anthony Semerad went 5-for-10 from downtown and finished with a team-high 23 points.

Sean Anthony (15.5 PPG) and Don Trollano (16.2 PPG) will remain as the top 1-2 punch of the group, though as always, anyone from Kevin Alas, Benedict Adamos, Clint Doliguez, and Kris Rosales can take the reins. Doliguez, for one, had 16 points, six boards, and a pair of steals in 16 efficient minutes vs. TNT

PREDICTION:

Handicap: Ginebra (-3.5) wins and covers the spread.

Total: The total goes over 196.
