Away: Toronto Raptors (39-29, 20-13 Away)
Projected Starting Five:
- Immanuel Quickley
- Brandon Ingram
- RJ Barrett
- Scottie Barnes
- Jakob Poeltl
The Raptors have found their groove again. After going on a 1-4 stretch, Toronto has gone undefeated through three games, with wins against the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls. With the exception of the Bulls, those are quality wins for the Raps, who are now 10 games above .500.
They are getting down to work on both ends of the court. In the last three games, the Raptors have averaged 126.7 points on 52.9 FG%, while allowing only 110.7 points and holding opponents to 47.6 FG%. Toronto shot just 37% from the field in its first meeting with Denver this season, resulting in a 106-103 road loss.
But losing by only three points despite a horrid shooting night can be a good sign for Toronto, which shot worse than 40% in only six other games this season.
The Raptors are 5-5 against the spread in their last 10 games away from Canada.
Home: Denver Nuggets (42-28, 19-13 Home)
Projected Starting Five:
- Jamal Murray
- Christian Braun
- Cameron Johnson
- Aaron Gordon
- Nikola Jokic
The Nuggets are coming off an upset loss at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies on the road on Thursday, 125-118. Nikola Jokic put up outsized numbers again with 29 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists, but he also committed 10 turnovers. Christian Braun felt like he was playing March basketball for Kansas and dropped 26 points on 11/19 shooting in the loss.
Turnovers were a major reason for Denver’s stunning loss to the Grizzlies, who converted the Nuggets’ 19 TOs into 27 points. That was 17 points more than what Denver generated off the Grizzlies’ 10 turnovers. The good news for Denver is that that’s a fixable issue, and mostly just the fault of one man, who also happens to be the team’s best player. The loss to Memphis could just be an outlier, and the Nuggets will be back to their top form as soon as this Saturday.
The Nuggets, tops in the league with a 120.6 offensive rating, have covered the spread in three of their last four games as the home team.
