Away: San Antonio Spurs (36-16, 16-10 Away)

Projected Starting Five:

  • De’Aaron Fox
  • Stephon Castle
  • Devin Vassell
  • Julian Champagnie
  • Victor Wembanyama

The Spurs are on a roll. They extended their winning streak to four games after blasting Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks in a 128-125 win at home on Sunday.

Part of that undefeated stretch for San Antonio was its 116-106 victory over the reigning NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder at home. That win added to the legitimacy of San Antonio as a real playoff contender, with Victor Wembanyama leading the charge.

However, the player to watch out for right now for the Spurs, perhaps, is Stephon Castle, who just won the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week for Week 16 after averaging 24.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists while shooting 63% from the field in four games. Also, he is coming off a 40-point eruption in the Mavs game for the Spurs.

The Spurs, third in the league with a 111.6 defensive rating, are 4-0 against the spread in their last four outings.

Home: Los Angeles Lakers (32-19, 14-8 Home)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Marcus Smart
  • Austin Reaves
  • Rui Hachimura
  • LeBron James
  • Deandre Ayton

The Lakers just got a reality check that they’re not great enough yet. After winning three games in a row, LeBron James and company were tripped up by the Oklahoma City Thunder at home on Tuesday, 119-110.

Los Angeles played minus Luka Doncic, who is dealing with a hamstring issue, but the Thunder were also without Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Meanwhile, James paced LA with 22 points on 9/17 shooting and 10 assists, while Marcus Smart provided 19 points with four 3-pointers. It is uncertain at the time of this writing whether Doncic will suit up against the Spurs.

Either way, the Lakers will have a rest disadvantage this Wednesday. That said, Los Angeles is 7-2 against the spread this season when it plays an opponent with more rest.
