The TerraFirma Dyip are in desperate need of wins, as the elimination round of the 2020 PBA Philippine Cup is about to end on Wednesday.

Will the Dyip boost their slim chances of making the playoffs with a win against the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel? Or, will the Barangay be the latest team to victimize the Dyip?

The TerraFirma Dyip  (1-8)

After tasting their first win of the conference when they defeated the Blackwater Elite last Friday, the Dyip failed to sustain their momentum, as they bogged down in a heart-breaking 95-93 loss to the Meralco Bolts on Sunday.

If anything, at least Terrafirma stayed competitive until the end of the game unlike in its previous losses which were virtually decided with several minutes left in regulation. The tandem of CJ Perez and Juami Tiongson sizzled in the loss to Meralco, each scoring 21 points. Tiongson has been picking up steam lately. He scored 19 points in the Blackwater game and has buried eight 3-pointers in the last two games on 12 attempts.

However, Roosevelt Adams, who played well in the previous couple of games, only had six points and three rebounds in 16 minutes of action against the Bolts. If Tiongson, Perez, and Adams all get their games going at the same time, TerraFirma can rock Ginebra, which will have its hands full on slowing down Perez in particular.

The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (7-3)

With Stanley Pringle not in his usual dominant form and Ginebra and LA Tenorio not chipping in his usual numbers, the Barangay fell prey to sister-team San Miguel Beermen Sunday night, 81-66.

It was the worst-scoring performance by Ginebra in the bubble. The Barangay got zero points and no assists from Tenorio, while Pringle managed just seven points on 3-for-10 shooting from the field. As a team, Ginebra shot just 30 FG%. But if they are looking to pick themselves up, a game against TerraFirma is a great way for the Barangay to snap out of their slump.

Ginebra has not lost to the Dyip franchise since the latter entered the PBA in 2014. Since then, the Barangay have gone 15-0, with most games ending in blowout fashion. In the last meeting between the two teams, Ginebra scored a 113-90 win at the Smart Araneta Coliseum back in the 2019 Governors’ Cup.

PREDICTION:

Ginebra’s crisp ball movement breaks down all the types of defense TerraFirma throws at the Barangay in this game, with Stanley Pringle taking over late to lead his team to a 107-94 win.
