The 6-3 Miami Heat are back at home after a three-game west coast trip, while the 4-7 Detroit Pistons are opening up a road trip of their own.
In bounce back mode
The Heat are looking to get back in the win column after a 95-80 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday. It was arguably their worst performance of the season as they only went 4-for-19 (21%) in the fourth quarter.
The silver lining is that when you consider all the talent in the roster and how well it’s coming together prior to the loss, there’s simply no other way but up.
Six different Heat players average in double figures, as led by Jimmy Butler (19.3 PPG) and Goran Dragic (16.7 PPG), who are also doing a good job distributing the ball to youngsters Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro, and Kendrick Nunn. Justise Winslow, meanwhile, is currently on a concussion protocol and will be out indefinitely.
Miami is sixth in scoring defense (105.4), sixth in defensive rating, and allow the lowest three-point shooting percentage from three (28%).
Blake Griffin is back, but he may seat this one out
Blake Griffin is fresh-off a return from injuries suffered in the off-season and late in the 2018-19 campaign. It was spoiled by the Minnesota Timberwolves, though, who edged out the Pistons on Tuesday, 120-114.
In the loss, Griffin scored 19 points, seven rebounds, and six assists across 24 minutes. Considering his history of injuries and this game being on the second night of a back-to-back, the team may prefer to rest him for precautionary measures.
Derrick Rose (hamstring) made a return as well, but he appeared rusty from the four-game absence. He only went 3-for-13 from the floor for nine points.
Andre Drummond and Luke Kennard
Should Griffin sit out, look for Andre Drummond and Luke Kennard to continue being the big producers. Drummond has been an absolute stat monster this season (20.2 PPG, 17.4 RPG, 3.7 RPG, 1.7 SPG, 2.1 BPG), while Kennard is breaking out (18.6 PPG, 4 RPG, 4 APG).
PREDICTION:
The Heat should be able to wear down the Pistons, who are playing their second game of a back-to-back.
