The Los Angeles Clippers failed to plant the tree of victory in their season opener, but they will try again this weekend against the Phoenix Suns in Inglewood. The Suns got a win already, and will look to double up when they play their first road game of the season.

Away: Phoenix Suns (1-0, 0-0 Away)

Projected Starting Five:

  • Devin Booker
  • Grayson Allen
  • Dillon Brooks
  • Oso Ighodaro
  • Ryan Dunn

The Suns got off to a good start to their campaign, as they took down the Sacramento Kings at home on Thursday, 120-116. Sacramento held a 17-point lead at the half, but Devin Booker and company went on a tear in the third and fourth periods, where they outscored Sacramento by 15 and six points, respectively.

It was a good way to kick off the letdown post-Kevin Durant era for Phoenix, which was led by Devin Booker’s 31 points. With Jalen Green still not expected to suit up due to a hamstring issue, Booker can be expected to have some extra on his plate. That doesn’t sound like a bad thing for the Suns, with Booker always a reliable offensive weapon for the team. But he also got help from Dillon Brooks, who made his Suns debut by scoring 24 points, albeit on a 9-for-24 shooting from the field and 1-for-8 from deep.

Meanwhile, Ryan Dunn and Mark Williams could give Los Angeles headaches on the glass after combining for 21 rebounds in the Sacramento game. The Clippers had major issues on the board in their season opener, and could be exposed in that area again by the Suns, who are 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 road games against Los Angeles.

Home: Los Angeles Clippers (0-1, 0-0 Home)

Projected Starting Five:

  • James Harden
  • Bradley Beal
  • Kawhi Leonard
  • Derrick Jones Jr.
  • Ivica Zubac

The Clippers had an ugly welcome to the new season, with the Utah Jazz running circles around the NBA’s “manong brigade.” The trio of James Harden, Kawhi Leonard and Bradley Beal was not enough for the Clippers to prevent a 129-108 loss in Salt Lake City on Thursday.

Harden had 15 points and 11 assists with two rebounds but shot just 5-for-12 from the field and 2-for-9 from deep. Leonard coughed up just 10 points with four rebounds and two assists – numbers that hardly scream “superstar.” Beal exploded for five points in his Clippers debut. It was Ivica Zubac, who paced LA with 19 points and seven boards, while John Collins added 14 points and seven boards. The Clippers got their looks and shots in the Jazz game, but just couldn’t get it going efficiently, as they ended up shooting just 44.3 percent from the field.

Perhaps playing at their ultra-modern and fun home in Inglewood will give the Clippers the early-season spark they seemingly need. They are 4-2-1 agains the spread in their last six games at Intuit Dome.
