Away: Philadelphia 76ers (3-3)
Projected Starting Five:
- Tyrese Maxey
- VJ Edgecombe
- Kelly Oubre Jr.
- Paul George
- Joel Embiid (Probable )
The 76ers have foot inside the door of a huge first-round upset in the Eastern Conference. Down 3-1 in the series, Joel Embiid and the company won Games 5 (113-97)and 6 (106-93) to force a Game 7. Although the deciding contest will take place in Beantown, the Sixers seem unfazed by it.
Two of their wins in the series have come on the road. Joel Embiid, who has been so integral in Philadelphia’s rise in the last two games, is listed as probable with an abdominal issue for Game 7.
But as long as his guts are intact, expect the former league MVP to be out on the floor in this huge matchup. Embiid has averaged 26.0 points and 8.0 (!) assists in the last two games. Meanwhile, Philly’s defense has been a bigger factor in the team’s recent success, having limited the Celtics to 97 points or fewer in the previous two meetings.
Home: Boston Celtics (3-3)
Projected Starting Five:
- Derrick White
- Jaylen Brown
- Sam Hauser
- Jayson Tatum
- Neemias Queta
Can the Celtics avoid a monumental collapse? The answer to that will be answered on Sunday, with pressure clearly on their shoulders, whether they admit it or not. One concern for Boston is Jayson Tatum’s health.
The former Duke Blue Devils star dealt with an apparent lower-left leg issue in Game 6, where he had 17 points on 6/13 shooting. However, he is not carrying any injury designation heading into Game 7, and also said “my leg just was a little stiff” following Game 6. Tatum and the Celtics have to find their offense after posting just a brutal 38.1 eFG% in Game 6, while also going an atrocious 5/28 from deep.
The Celtics are too talented for any opponent to feel confident they can contain them, regardless of how well their defense performed in the previous game.
