Things are going great in La La Land, with the Lakers scoring their fifth win in a row last Thursday by edging Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in a 118-116 victory at Crypto.com Arena. Despite the continued absences of LeBron James and Austin Reaves, the Lakers got the job done against the Spurs, thanks in large part to Luka Doncic. Who else? 

The Slovenian superstar went off for 35 points with 13 assists and five steals to lead the Lakers, while Deandre Ayton provided 22 points and 10 rebounds. LeBron has yet to see action this season due to a back issue, while Reaves will miss a third consecutive game because of a groin injury. But with Doncic humming and the Lakers’ supporting cast stepping up, the Lakers should continue to be a threat to anyone. 

The Lakers, who are ninth in the league with a 118.0 offensive rating, have covered the spread in all of their last four games away from home.

The Hawks are back to sub-.500 level after a 109-97 home loss at the hands of the Toronto Raptors on Saturday. The absence of Trae Young due to an early-season injury has made life harder for Atlanta, but they have gone 2-2 since he got sidelined, winning games against the Indiana Pacers and the Orlando Magic in that span. 

The Hawks have also looked competitive in a recent loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on the road. Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Jalen Johnson have picked it up for late for Atlanta, as the two combined for 31 points in the Raptors clash. Meanwhile, 2024 NBA Draft top pick Zaccharie Risacher has shown improvement as well. Risacher had 21 points in the win over the Magic and 16 versus the Raptors.

The Hawks are 4-3 against the spread in their last seven games as the home team versus the Lakers.
