As the playoffs heat up, the spotlight is shifting from superstars to the unsung heroes who are stepping up when it matters most. Week two of the postseason featured some magic from unexpected sources, proving that championship runs are built on more than just big names. Nevertheless, these five rose to the occasion and changed the momentum of their series.
#1 – Jaden McDaniels (30 PTS, 5 REB, 2 STL vs. Lakers, April 25th)
For the second straight week, McDaniels makes our list—this time with 30 impactful points in a pivotal Game 3. While known for his defense, his offensive explosion (including 4 threes) gave Minnesota the firepower they needed to take a 2-1 series lead. If he keeps this up, the Timberwolves might just be unstoppable.
Timberwolves won, 116-104.
#2 – Gary Trent Jr. (37 PTS, 4 STL, 9 3PM vs. Pacers, April 26th)
With Giannis needing help, Trent delivered the game of his life. His playoff career-high 37 points (including 9 threes) and 4 steals single-handedly kept Milwaukee alive. The Bucks were on the brink of an 0-3 hole, but Trent’s unconscious shooting gave them a fighting chance.
Bucks won 117-101.
#3 – Stephen Curry (39 PTS, 9 REB, 7 AST, 5 3PM vs. Rockets, April 27th)
With Jimmy Butler sidelined, Curry reminded everyone why he’s the Rockets’ longtime tormentor. His 39-point masterclass (plus 9 boards and 7 dimes) propelled Golden State to a 2-1 series lead. Even at 36, Steph remains the ultimate playoff closer.
Warriors won, 104-93
#4 – Franz Wagner (32 PTS, 7 REB, 8 AST vs. Celtics, April 26th)
While Paolo Banchero gets the headlines, Wagner proved he’s just as dangerous. His 32-point, 8-assist outburst against the defending champs kept Orlando alive, avoiding an 0-3 deficit. His fearlessness in big moments is exactly what the young Magic need.
Magic won, 95-93.
#5 – Nikola Jokic (36 PTS, 21 REB, 8 AST vs. Clippers, April 27th)
After an embarrassing Game 3 loss, Jokic responded with a monster 36 & 21 performance to even the series. His all-around dominance (including 8 assists) reminded everyone why he’s the best player in the world. Denver’s title hopes live and die with him.
Nuggets won, 101-99.
