We got a new round of stories from the last edition, From Gilas Pilipinas getting a reinforcement, to a legendary coach receiving a huge honor, to an ‘ol pundit clinging into a beef he ignited – and of course being dramatic.

Thumbs Up – Mo Bamba Getting Roasted

Mo Bamba, recently waived by the Utah Jazz, is now a free agent figuring out his next step. But his story about a buddy sending him an “unemployed” job link had fans cracking up. That’s the kind of humor and realness that keeps even millionaire athletes grounded. You need friends who’ll roast you, not praise you.

Thumbs Up – QMB Finally FIBA-Eligible

At long last, Quentin Millora-Brown, a.k.a QMB, has been declared eligible to play for Gilas Pilipinas. The Filipino-American big man, who started at Vanderbilt University (USNCAA) before making his mark with the UP Fighting Maroons, where he helped win the 2024 UAAP championship. His addition brings much-needed size, energy, and versatility to the national team – the triple tower with Japeth Aguilar and June Mar Fajardo has Gilas fans real giddy.

Thumbs Up – Pat Riley Gets a Lakers Statue

Pat Riley is finally being immortalized with a Lakers statue outside Crypto.com Arena. Riley won one title as a Laker player and four more as head coach, cementing himself as an architect of the franchise’s Showtime era. He joins legends like Magic, Kareem, Kobe, Shaq, Jerry West, and beloved play-by-play man Chick Hearn as one of the franchise’s iconic bronze figures.

Thumbs Up – Kelsey Mitchell’s Career Year

In a season full of setbacks for the Indiana Fever, Kelsey Mitchell is thriving. With Caitlin Clark sidelined without a timetable, and Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson out for the season, Mitchell has stepped up as the team’s rock. Averaging a career-high 20.4 points per game and leading the WNBA in scoring, she’s proving her All-Star credentials.

Thumbs Down – Yeng Guiao’s Weak Excuses
Coach Yeng Guiao has long been respected in Philippine basketball, but his recent excuse-making was embarrassing. He claimed that Australia and New Zealand shouldn’t be part of Asia’s zone because of supposed “natural advantages in genetics.” That’s not strategy or insight – it’s whining. Gilas needs accountability and solutions, not excuses that sound like they came from sore losers.

Thumbs Down – Stephen A. Still Clinging to LeBron Beef

Stephen A. Smith just can’t let go of his beef with LeBron James. It’s been nearly five months since their spat, but he continues bringing it up every chance he gets. Worse, the whole mess started because Stephen A. questioned James as a father – what type of “analyst” does that? It’s just embarrassing.

Knowing what we know of SAS, though, I can’t tell if this is his classic self-aware, attention-seeking bullcrap to help him stay relevant, or his usual out-of-touch, childish tantrum whenever he gets put in place – kinda like how he pushed Max Kellerman off their show, First Take, because Max would constantly outdebate him.
