The Golden State Warriors have been competitive this season despite missing Klay Thompson.

They’re playing with only Stephen Curry as their main guy, yet they’re still in the mix for the playoff spot.

As of the moment, the Warriors are currently ninth in the West with a 20-20 record and are only a few games behind the current eighth-seed Dallas Mavericks who are at 20-18.

Curry is also having an MVP-level season putting up 29.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 6.3 assists on 47.6% shooting from the field and 41.1% shooting from the three-point line.

But the reality is the Warriors have a very slim to no chance of winning the title, even if they were to make the playoffs. The Western Conference is simply too stacked, not to mention potential dance partners in the finals like the Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets.

The big question now is what the Dubs should do at this point.

They recently just had a big 131-119 win over the top team of the league in the Utah Jazz.

However, they just followed that up with a bad game against the Lakers in the second of a back-to-back. They were routed 128-97.

The Warriors are currently relying heavily on Curry. Other than him, no one else is putting up big time numbers that could give them a good chance for the Larry O’Brian trophy this season.

The second leading scorer of the team is Andrew Wiggins, who is averaging 17.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists, Kelly Oubre Jr is putting up 15.2 points and 6.0 rebounds while rookie James Wiseman is averaging only 12.0 points and 5.9 rebounds.

Former all-star and supposedly the second-best player on the team Draymond Green is only averaging 6.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 8.5 rebounds.

Curry don’t have the help he needs to make a deep run in the playoffs this season, if they do make it.

Talks about acquiring two-time all-star Victor Oladipo have been spreading lately, which could be an upgrade in some ways as he’s averaging 20.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists.

That would be a big boost, but that may still not be enough to compete for a ring. Because of this, tanking won’t be the worst idea at this point.

In order for GSW to make it to the playoffs, Curry would have to continue playing big minutes to win games and even with that it’s uncertain if they’ll make it or not.

Resting Curry now would mean he’ll be more than ready for next season when Klay Thompson is back. Which means another year or two of a title contention could still be in their future.

NBA Legends Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley also gave their thoughts on this situation of the Warriors.
