Rain or Shine Elasto Painters (4-1)
Projected Starting Five:
- Andrei Caracut
- Shaun Ildefonso
- Jhonard Clarito
- Leonard Santillan
- Keith Datu
Rain or Shine’s surge continues, as the Elasto Painters extended their win streak to three games after crushing the Terrafirma Dyip, 106-91, last Friday. Yeng Guiao’s team treated the Dyip like a punching bag, with Leonard Santillan leading the way. Santillan dropped 26 points on Terrafirma, shooting 10-for-15 from the field and hitting six of his 10 attempts from behind the arc.
It was a comfortable victory for the Elasto Painters, who have one of the most prolific offenses in the league this conference. Rain or Shine is putting up 103.4 points per game, second-highest so far. Although they are shooting just 40.5 percent from the field and 26.0 percent from deep, Rain or Shine makes up for those by playing fast and getting a ton of attempts. In fact, the Elasto Painters are tops in the league with 90.8 field goal tries per game, a huge difference from Phoenix’s league-worst 75.6 field goal attempts per outing.
Phoenix Fuel Masters (1-4)
Projected Starting Five:
- Tyler Tio
- Sean Manganti
- Bryan Santos
- Jason Perkins
- Kai Ballungay
Unlike the Elasto Painters, Phoenix is moving in the opposite direction, as the Fuel Masters enter Wednesday’s meeting with Rain or Shine on the heels of a three-game losing skid. In their most recent outing, the Fuel Masters fell short of pulling off an upset against the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots, suffering an 83-80 loss last Friday. Phoenix made a late-game rally against the Hotshots, but ultimately did not have enough gas (and time) to get he job done.
Still, that was a gallant stand for Phoenix against one of the best teams in the league right now, and the Fuel Masters will look to carry over some of the positives from that contest into the date with Rain or Shine. For one, Jason Perkins had 19 points versus Magnolia. However, there’s got to be more coming from the others. Sean Manganti was Phoenix’s second-leading scorer in the Magnolia game despite coughing up just 10 points. Winning the possession battle will be a key here for the Fuel Masters, especially since they’re relatively efficient with their shots. They are fourth in the league with a 50.0 effective field goal percentage.
