Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell got his rhythm going again on Wednesday.

Following one of her worst performances in the 2025 WNBA season, in which she scored nine points on a horrid 3-for-16 shooting from the floor in a 78-74 win over the Seattle Storm last Monday, Mitchell erupted for 34 points on 11-for-19 shooting in a 100-91 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday.

While Mitchell’s effort was ultimately wasted in a defeat at the hands of Kelsey Plum and the Sparks, her performance still provided optimism for the Fever, who continue to keep their heads above water while waiting for Caitlin Clark to come back from injury.

Clark has missed the last eight Fever games due to a groin issue, and over that stretch, Mitchell has played a big part in covering the void temporarily left by the former Iowa Hawkeyes superstar. In the last eight Indiana games, Mitchell led the Fever with an average of 21.9 points on a 44.6 percent shooting from the floor and 40.6 percent shooting from deep. At the same time, the Fever won five games in that span.

Playing in her eighth season in the WNBA, all with the Fever, Mitchell has consistently shown the ability to step up for the Fever with or without Clark. There was her 21-point outing against the Las Vegas Aces on July 25, which was followed by a 35-point explosion against the Chicago Sky on July 28, as two recent examples of individual brilliance from the three-time WNBA All-Star..

On the season, the former Ohio State Buckeyes star is averaging 20.0 per game, and while she’s not the ball-distributor that Clark is, Mitchell checks out as an efficient bucket-getter (53.7 eFG% and 57.1 TS% in 2025) for Indiana that is currently fifth in the WNBA standings with a 17-13 record.
