The Indiana Fever are still alive in the 2025 WNBA Playoffs. Facing elimination in Game 2 of their first-round series against the Atlanta Dream, Kelsey Mitchell and the Fever made sure that they would play at least one more game after eking out a 77-60 win at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
It was just the right — and only — response Indiana needed to keep its hopes up for a WNBA title this season after getting blown out of the water by the Dream in the series opener, 8-68. Indiana, missing Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham because of season-ending injuries, led wire to wire in Game 2. A decisive 10-2 run in the second quarter gave the Fever a huge momentum that they managed to sustain the rest of the contest despite repeated attempts by the visiting team to turn the tide.
Mitchell led the way for Indiana, with the veteran guard pumping out 19 points with four 3-pointers to go with four assists, two steals and a block. Aliyah Boston, meanwhile, dominated inside, shooting 7-for-12 from the field for 15 points while grabbing five boards. An exhilarating end to the third quarter also added to the headaches of Atlanta, with the Fever going on a 7-0 run that was capped by a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Lexie Hull at the buzzer after forcing a Dream turnover.
Indiana played with a great sense of urgency in Game 2, as the Fever should have. The Fever took the fight to Atlanta. They shot 8-for-19 from behind the arc, outrebounded the Dream by a huge margin, 37-27, and had more attempts from the free-throw line. While Atlanta went 5-for-10 from the foul line, Indiana made all of its 15 freebies.
The mission remains the same for the Fever after that inspired victory in Game 2, but if they are to complete the series comeback and advance to the semifinals phase of the WNBA Playoffs, they will have to overcome the hostile atmosphere in Game 3 this coming Friday. That game will be held at Gateway Center in College Park, Georgia, where Indiana lost Game 1.
