The Utah Jazz could be stranded in a messy situation for the foreseeable future. Rumors are now circulating that the relationship between their two All-Stars – Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert – is not “salvageable.”

Shams Charania, Sam Amick, and Tony Jones shared the report on The Athletic:

As you know, Gobert was the NBA’s patient zero for the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. He was diagnosed last March 12th, a mere hour before a road game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

With heavy concerns surrounding the virality of the disease, the game got postponed and the league soon put the 2019-20 season on-hold. Mitchell then tested positive less than 24 hours later and admitted on national TV that he was upset at how things transpired.

Gobert received a ton of backlash due to the rather careless act just days prior. In a routine press conference, he appeared to mock the world’s chaotic state by jokingly touching the mics, which opposed the worldwide advisory of being mindful of your surroundings.

Doctors have said there’s no way of knowing as to who infected who, and both have been cleared of the virus last March 28th. Considering how it all went down, though, it’s tough not to look at Gobert and blame Mitchell for souring on his teammate.

It won’t be shocking to see any of the two get traded away soon, and it will be very frustrating for the management and the fans as it may set the franchise back. They are not random teammates. We’re talking about the Jazz’s cornerstones and leaders on the two ends of the floor – Mitchell is a 20-plus point scorer and one of the best guards today, while Gobert is an elite protector in the paint with multiple Defensive Player of the Year awards.

Here’s one of their best games in the past year:

Don’t worry too much, Jazz fans. Their teammate Joe Ingles firmly believes that things will get straightened out soon enough. His take was also on The Athletic’s report:

“I have no doubt when we go back to training, or when our season starts again, our team is going to be what we have been and what we are … I’m confident our team will be completely fine. The chemistry will be fine”

Joe Ingles talks about team chemistry

He even joked about it on Twitter recently:

Prior to the indefinite hiatus, the Jazz were 41-23 and ranked fourth in the Western Conference standings.
