Well, the Nets debuted their star trio of Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving today. Much to the surprise of the NBA world, they managed to lose in a double-overtime game 147-135 after holding a three point lead in the closing minutes of the first extra period.

The undoubted star of the game was Colin Sexton, who helped the Cavs come back from a double digit deficit before putting on one of the most memorable overtime performances that I’ve come across in a long time.

In the second overtime, Sexton was directly responsible for 18 straight Cavaliers points. After splitting a pair of free throws with 4:38 remaining, Sexton went on a legendary heat check and made four threes and a close range shot before finally dishing the ball to Taurean Prince, who made another triple. He finally missed on the play after that but by then had single-handedly put away the Nets.

Watch from the 9:27 mark on the video below to see what happened.

It was the kind of performance that Irving probably wishes he had. While the mercurial Nets forward did have 37 points on 15 of 28 shooting, he threw up a ton of bricks in both OT periods. Many of them didn’t even look like he was thinking about passing the ball, either.

The Cavs do look like they could contend for a playoff spot but don’t get me wrong. I understand that the Nets are on a title hunt, but on the occasion of their Big Three finally making a debut, it was just a lot of fun to watch some young kid lose his mind and send the big dogs home with their tails between their legs.

Let’s see how the Nets respond when they next meet on Saturday, January 23 at 8:30 AM Manila time.
